Have an SS with a tvs on it. Had a 3" exhaust and switched to a 2.5" because I didn't like the way the 3" fit. No power loss on the dyno whatsoever. Actually made a bit more with a 2.5" (keep in mind the dynos were on different days and both with the same catless TSP longtubes).

I am running a 2.5" NPP exhaust at about 750rwhp. I had the 3" SW, but it was murdering my grounc clearance after spacing out my convertible bracing. No issues here with 2.5".

I would do 3 inch front to back if I was going Twin Turbo. 100%!

For anything less (NA), I'd mimic the Z28 2.75" size, and call it a day.

Well guys thanks alot for the help. I bought the corsa sport exhaust. my buddy and i knocked it out yesterday, the install was simple. I love the way it sounds completely diffeent sound than i had on past vehicles. Theres no drone at all. Its a little quiet but i think the lt headers will change that.

Where did you get clearance issues? My vert bracing has one spacer on each side at the diff, but no problems yet. I did not install it though, I had a shop do it and he tweaked the routing a bit.

I have done quite a bit of exhaust work in the past, but I only had so much room. I was scraping the vert cross brace, the tunnel brace, and the rear diagonal bracing with the spacers I had to install. My car is 1.5" lower than stock, plus an additional 1" shorter from running the 19" wheels and tire setup.

2.5" will be perfect for 90% of the applications out there, including the SS. We do offer 2 kits for them in 3", but those are mainly designed for the high horsepower/race crowd.

if there is any chance that you might get a Cam, super or turbo charging you will want 3' gives you the option of going B I G down the road. I have the typical air intake/LT's/hi-flows and tune. but there is alway a chance I could go big and I have the 3 inch SW Retro Chambered cat back already in place.

Every year the amount of hp that 2-1/2 inch exhausts will support gets higher and higher. It used to be around 400 hp, then it went up to 500, now its up to 700...soon people will be saying that 2-1/2 inch exhausts support well over 1000 hp easily. What people forget is that what a exhaust can "support" is different from what makes an engine more efficient. a 2-1/4 inch exhaust can "support" 700. But if you increased the size and made no other changes then you'd gain a significant amount more hp from that change alone. In other words, if you have a choice between 2-1/2 or 3 inch, go with 3 inch.

Personally I love the way my cammy sounds. I have the kooks 1 7/8 LT with high flow cats followed by the 3inch retro chambered exhaust by stainless works, I was reluctant at first because I thought it would be too loud because technically the exhaust has no mufflers but the piping itself has dimples throughout the pipes which is what also gives it a beautiful tone. I also have a big ass cam so it complements the sound but im telling you 3" sounds great especially this setup

Do you think the 2.75 on the Z28 was a compromise of sorts? Eg, ground clearance, cost, etc?
