JL 12 W6 - thoughts

2014 coupe

Looking at the preloaded JL drivers side fiberglass enclosure with a 12w6
vs
Popular internet ordered "Large" enclosure, loaded with a 12w6.

As I understand it the Popular enclosure is 1.2 ft^3 Which is .14 too small when you look at the JL specs. (.05 plus another .09 for the sub itself)

Comments would be appreciated by people that have heard either or both.

You honestly think you'll be able to tell the difference between 0.14 of space??

Not entirely sure what you mean by "JL Specs" as no manufacture can change the laws of physics.

The 12W6v3-D4 =
Qts: 0.46
Vas: 1.92
Fs: 26.92

For a perfect enclosure (Q.707), you need 1.442 cuft, which will provide a box frequency (Fb) of 41 hz and roll off frequency (F3) of 41 hz. Without getting too deep into the physics and differences of the human ear, you can easily drop the W6 into a 1.2 cuft enclosure with 1.2lb of polyfil to "trick" the speaker into believing it's in a ~1.25 cuft enclosure (1.2 + .12 - .09).

If the price is right, go for it, though unless you personally need to bleed JL or your picking it up for $300 installed there are better options.

The Polk MM1240 outperforms the W6 by leaps and bounds and arguably even the W7.

Thanks for the info...
I was thinking the JL site specified 1.25... I have looked at so many sub specs...Their website actually says 1.0 for a sealed enclosure.

I am looking for a good sub... I have spent a good deal of time looking at Sundown, most of my experience was years ago with Rockford... Currently running some old school HX2's in my truck. I want something more musical in the car. I will check out the polk...

How much money have most of us spent in hopes of 10% more HP and usually at 6500 RPM

I personally think I could tell the difference if my car had another 45HP at the wheels!

On the sub I don't know if I will be able to tell the difference, but I will at least do my do diligence to try and make it the best that I can...

I have 2 = 10w3v3-4 . JL audio say sealed is .625 .. But for tight bass a smaller box is better .. So I built a duel chambered .50 for each side and stuffed them with 25% pollyfill ..

I have the JL 12w6v3 in the sub thump 12" driver side enclosure with the amp mount on it. Sounds great to me. I don't think I'd ever be able to tell the difference if it had more or less air space. I'd go for it. A JL XD 600/1 amp will push it just fine as well. Oh, and the remote bass knob is nice to install in the cab for more control over your bass.
