Removable Roof?
Hello Members,
Just wondering if the roof on the new C7 Stingray needs to be the removable roof or if there is an option to have a fixed roof (better structural rigidity?). Does anyone have any insight into this? The options list posted (1LT, 2LT, 3LT packages) does not show anything specific to this point (carbon roof with colour surround is listed as both standard and an available option?!?). Thanks! |

vette's have been for a long while (someone correct me if i'm wrong) designed with a targa top in mind.
having a fixed roof wouldn't/shouldn't change much in terms of stiffness. |

heard that the Corvette was designed this time as convertible, so stiffer than before, even with removable roof panel.

Actually the C5 FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe) was the fore runner of the C5 Z06 and it remained a fixed roof coupe. When the C6 Z06 was introduced in 2006 it was not a Traga top as well as the ZR-1. They stated that they needed the roof structure to be part of the body for integrity. The C7 is a removable roof, but then again this is not the high performance model such as a Z06. When they release the next high performance model we will have to wait and see if they have the removable top, but as they have claimed that the new frame structure is much stiffer then that of the C6, it is possible that it will be a Traga top car.

I believe I read the base C7 with targa top also has as much if not more rigidity than a C6 Z06 coupe.
