From what I am hearing, yes, the "option" of declining the fix is not there anymore. I'm still betting there's a few dealers out there still not worried about that, so your results may vary, but there was a couple of folks and even some people that works at dealerships saying the option isn't there if you bring your car in for other work.

Got oil changed today, told them I wanted to decline the key fob update, no issue at all. If I had not requested to waive the change they would have done the swap. They also said if I changed my mind in the future they would do it, so it sin't like you have to decide and then never change your mind. I thought it was fair. They did not make me sign anything it was noted on the service provided paperwork that I declined it

Our Sonics have the same key fob as well. However, I noticed the switch is rotated about 90 degrees. Haven't received any recall notice on them either. I added the recall notice on the Camaro to my collection of "memorabilia". I'm keeping the original keys that came with the car.

They can refuse to do any work to your car for not having the recall done (or any reason) but they can't legally perform a recall on your car without your consent.

I just had warranty work done and they told my wife she needed to have the recall done. So she calls me and said they were fixing the keys (she didn't know anything about the recall). So I talked to the service rep and said no way to the recall. They said no problem and didn't do it. But if my wife didn't call, it would of got done. Thank you honey.

What exactly do they do on this "key recall"?
I understand there is another key they provide.
Do they do anything to the car ignition?
Do they take your switchblade key out?

Someone has to say this: The recall was a "knee jerk reaction". LOL

I had my 'vert at the dealer last week for a hand wash and to check one of the washer nozzles. They drove my car down to the service bay and I mentioned to the service advisor afterward that I did NOT want the key recall done. She called the tech on her cell phone and told him not to do the recall. They were going to automatically do it without informing me beforehand.

It should ALWAYS be the vehicle owner's choice whether and when an existing recall is to be performed. "Compliance" is voluntary. Just as with the flu shot. It's highly recommended but not mandatory. Nor are 99% of vehicle recalls.

The way the dealer explained it to me made some sense! If you are in an accident and being bounced around, your knee could hit the key. This will cause you to possibly lose brakes, steering, and the benefit of airbags. If I refuse the recall, the dealer wants be to sign off on paperwork that releases GM of liability. I haven't committed yet, but I can see a safety issue. I will probably get it done!

Wow. I guess they'll tell people anything. No matter how absurd it sounds. My steering wheel would have to come off for my knees to hit the key while bouncing around.

I'm sitting here in the parking lot at work waiting for the security guard to unlock the building. I started bouncing and flailing about to see if I could hit the key. Nope. Didnt happen. Key still in the on position.

Lucky its still dark and no one can see me.

This is crazy with all the stories. I opened my mail this morning and there was a letter from the dealer telling me I had to have a recall done. I did call them to find out and it was the "key" recall. I told the service manager I would sign the waiver and he said they are not offering the waiver now. I told him that's fine and they could service it if they left the keys alone or it would have to have Ford oil and a filter. He said that I'm not only Camaro driver that has given them explicit instruction to leave the keys alone.

All the more reason they should offer push-button start. My 2005 prius (stop laughing) had it. My hyundai (ok, you can laugh) had it...it's time GM got with the program.
