Classifieds transactions

Has anyone done deals using western union? I've always used PayPal and just wanted to get some input about using this as a method of payment for an item.

do not do western union, paypal only. If you get a feeling it is a shady deal, do not do it.

Why is western union associated with scams? Is there no way to get your money back if the part never arrives?

No. Once you send the money and if there's an issue and seller does not send, you're out of the money. No buyer protection.

Yup, I work for a pretty big bank. We always advise against Western Union, and with Paypal... definitely call them before you make a large transaction like that.

Have the agent on Paypal document the transaction inquiry and let them know what you intend on doing and what their policies are in your case.

Always always always have the agent note your account when you call Paypal, that way in case anything goes wrong, you got something to go off in your favor.

Paypal will send the seller a check once the money is in HIS account. This has nothing to do with you the buyer.

Someone I know wired $35,000 for a car that didn't exist. As everyone will tell you, never wire money for a car. It's 100% guaranteed to be a scam.

As a buyer, i would stick to PayPal as much as possible to cover your ass. As a seller, checks are fine, no paypal fees to pay. Just be careful. When you get the check, call the issuing bank and they can verify if it's real or not. Don't ship anything until the money is cleared in your account. If the check arrives and the amount is too much, and he's asking that you send a refund for the difference, it's a scam.

DO NOT USE WESTERN UNION!

PAYPAL only, I dont even use google wallet. Anybody that "insists" on something other than PayPal is just going to scam you!

And if they ask you to send it family and friends, make sure your method of bank draft is with a debit card. They cannot dispute a friends and family transaction, but since you ised your debit card, when you paid through paypal, your bank will gaurentee the transaction.

Western Union check is the exact same thing as western union only it's a paper check sent through the mail. You will have ZERO recourse to get your money back WHEN the guy scams you.
If the guy is so insistent on western union tell him to send you the part and once you have it in hand then you will send the money western union, and just see what he says
