How much headroom with a helmet?

Looking to sell my track car and pick up a dual purpose car that I can just drive to the track and back. The Z28 is my first choice, but I've read that headroom can be an issue.

So....from the guys that are 6' and up, how much headroom is there with a helmet on? I'm looking for a 1" gap above my helmet to be safe.

I'm 6'5 and wear a helmet for drag racing, I have to angle my seat a good bit back to have head room, but it is possible.

I am 6' and have a longer upper torso and I have an inch or so clearance without a hassle. With my ZL1 and a sunroof, my head was tight against the headliner. Go test drive or test sit just to be sure with your situation.

Do you have the recaro seats?

For road course driving you can't really tilt back, arms would be to far from the steering wheel.

6' 2" I have 1" gap at the most.
I am hoping to remove the seat slider and set it in a lower fixed position.

Fantastic news! Thanks for the responses.

I would definitely remove the seat slider and permanently mount, since I'd be the only one driving. The lower in the car the better.

6'1", head does just touch the headliner. Wouldn't mind it a bit lower but really hasn't been a problem. If putting a track seat in, there are ways to get it lower. Visibility wouldn't be great if it's too low so it's a double edge sword. The car overall, as a dual use vehicle, is awesome!!!!

I'm over 6' and with my helmet on it has been very uncomfortable to drive. My car has a sunroof which probably makes it worse, it is down all the way and I have to lean it pretty far back, then I also have to slouch in an uncomfortable position and still the helmet rests of the roof. If I do more track days I would get a proper seat for myself as I feel like the standard seats don't support enough for use on the track anyway.

This is very dependent on your build. I am 6'7" tall and 235 pounds. I wear 38/36 inseam pants and have a little more torso length than some of my "Tall Club" friends... ;-)

There was NO way for me to comfortably drive my car with a helmet; my helmet was buried into the headliner unless I reclined so far that the reach to the wheel became a problem. I've since installed a Sparco ERGO racing shell, and recommend it highly...

Super bummed. Went to dealer yesterday with helmet and sat in the Z, my helmet hits the headliner and A pillar. I have about 1" of headroom without the helmet. Not too happy.

Next thought is to just buy a race seat ans swap out on track days, but that's a pain.

My car is at the shop over at Winding Road on Burnet having a race tech seat installed. they will have the car at least through next week. Stop by and since my seat is out maybe they can throw a couple of the seats they have in stock into the car for demo. I'm 6'6" and test fit with the Racetech was superb.
