whats a good dash cam

my Camaro is coming in soon and I want to get a dash cam for it I want good quality 4k and a good nighttime video with the parking mode so I was thinking about getting the BlackVue DR900X-2CH or the THINKWARE U1000 Dual Dash Cam but they seem a little pricy any thoughts?

You can't go wrong with either one! I have the Thinkware Q800 Pro and it works fine for my needs.

Never had a dash cam before but last Nov '21, I had two incidences where a dash cam would have come in handy; ended up purchasing the Q800 Pro at decent Black Friday sale price.

I have the Blackvue DR900S-2CH dual channel 4K dash cam (predecessor of the X, it doesn't yet have LTE, which is fine with me). It's a very good unit, easy to install, reliable and image quality is sufficient for plate identification. After hardwiring it into the trunk fuse box via their powermagic pro unit, it has a proper parking mode, too.

This is my next car related purchase. I was leaning towards Garmin though.

I have a BlackVue in both my Camaro and my daily. If you go with one, I can recommend getting the Blendmount for the front camera - it's pricy, but solid and you don't have to deal with the adhesive mounts provided with the camera. Just make sure you get the right one based on the mirror in your car - I have a 2SS so I have the mirror with the rear camera screen that requires the Blendmount BBV-2028 model. If you don't have that kind of mirror, you need the BBV-2027.

If anyones looking for a more budget oriented dual system then I can refer both the Aukey DR02 D and the VIOFO A119 Pro. You can get them around $100 and they’re practically the exact same thing, same sensors and features. Pretty sure they were just outsourced by each company but they do the job

what makes it worth its price when I can use the double sided tape that comes with it and some goo gone to remove it if I wanted

It's up to you to decide if it is worth the money, but the main reasons that spring to mind are that it looks better and is harder to see it in the windshield than when it is stuck on with the tape, it's easier to clean your windshield because you can wipe between the camera and the windshield instead of trying to clean around the mount, and most importantly it won't fail and fall off on a hot summer day when you parked in the sun like the tape can.

I would say that BlackVue and ThinkWare are Pepsi and CocaCola. Up and down the product line they are very comparable and it depends on preferences. Two of our cars have ThinkWare 750 dual channel. My Camaro has ThinkWare Q800 dual channel. They work great for us.

I have the Thinkware Q800PRO 2K QHD dash cam. My only complaint is the audio is not the greatest. I've had it mounted for about a year and a half using the windshield mount it came with and have had no issues with the adhesive. If a blade spoiler can be mounted with only 3M type double sided tape and not come off, it's not likely a ¼ lb. camera is going to fall off on a hot summer day.

Do a search for "dashcam windshield mount adhesive tape failing" in your favorite search engine, and you'll see it happens to a lot of people. Granted, that may be an issue with how they applied the tape, and your experience is going to vary based on local climate and where your vehicle is kept, but it can and does happen. Physics also enters into it, because the weight of the camera is pulling directly away from the adhesive and the surface it is mounted to, which doesn't happen in the blade spoiler example (though I concede that the spoiler does have direct force applied to it by wind when the vehicle is in motion).

In the end, as with all things you add to a car, YMMV and you may not see the value in spending more money. Personally, I don't see 100-200 bucks for a well made and secure mount as a huge investment on a car I've spent a lot of money on and plan to keep for a long time.

I run a nexar camera, it's made form front and interior but the interior mounts just below the mirror so in my vert it's perfect for a rear cam

I have an Insignia Dash cam in both my vehicles. Inexpensive and good quality. 1080p. Less than $50 on ebay. 1080p. Front and back facing camera. No wi-fi. Micro USB power port so any fuse tap wiring harness with that end will work. I found mine on Amazon for $15. You can tap into the fuse bay under the hood or you can tap into the power supply above the mirror with a harness from Gen5DIY.com.
