Is a Cobalt SS good?

I was thinking about buying a regular cobalt ss with a automatic transmission and i was wondering if they was good cars. I am mostly going to use it for work and traveling because i have a silverado and it is killing me on gas. I wont do much to the engine unless its something little for awhile and im going to be waiting on the new camaro.

I've driven one for about 5 min. They are pretty nifty, nimble, and quick cars. If I wasn't so big, it'd be a bit more cumfy...but those seats seem to be designed for smaller folks. I'm 6'3 and 225, so... Not bad, though. I don't know how much gas it will save you, but I'm sure it'll be a noticable difference over any truck!

i am 5'8 so it should be pretty good for me. My parents just got a sunfire it is pretty good. Do you know if they are reliable, have you heard anything bad about them? Thanks

there are two versions of the Cobalt SS... the 4dr version is available with the automatic tranny and is not supercharged... while not as fast as its supercharged coupe sibling, it is still quicker than the other Cobalts and is a pretty nice little car if you are looking for a good beater with decent gas mileage... if I was going to get one, I'd get the supercharged SS coupe with the 5spd (that's the only tranny you can get with the supercharged car)... decent gas mileage and gobs of power for a car that small... I, much like TAG, dont fit in one very well but I have found a way to lean/adjust the seat that actually fits me pretty well... if I had room for another car somewhere, I'd probably already have one... lol

the cars really aren't old enough to have any serious long term test data available yet... they're initial quality and one year quality seem to be good... I've driven a couple on used car lots and they seem to be holding up pretty well.

well I drove a SS and a SS Supercharged and i gotta tell you the extra 35 hp the supercharged version gives you is awesome. But if you don't want to pay for tons of gas, the regular SS which has 170 (supercharged SS is 205 or so) which as my dad would say is 'more than enough' in a small car like that. I know one thing, the cobalt is WAY better than the old 'pull the plug on it's life suport old' caviler .

I haven't heard anything other than it's back seats are "inhospitable" to anybody except small children. It is really speedy, and does save you plenty of gas...

I want a 'heritige' sports car, so I can't get one of those, and if I didn't need to save money, I would be getting a cobalt.

so wait.. how much gas can you buy for $20,000????? why not buy a slightly used sunfire or other ultra reliable ride? Cobalts are too new to have many known issues.. but i haven't heard of anything.

you would probabally fit just fine, but i seemed to have a thing for girls in sun fires in college.. like 3 in a row... man those cars were tiny. Grand am/G6 cars are a little bigger and get almost exactly the same mileage with a few more comforts.

I think any of the Colbalt models are good cars. Never heard anything bad about them. The 4 door SS is a really nice car for the money. It would make a nice DD. IMO

FWIW the Cobalt SS Supercharger have been dynoing waaay over the listed 205hp. Several people have dynoed them closer to 235hp and 220lbft.

I can JUST barely hang onto one in my modded MINI Cooper S, and I am making pretty close to 200hp and my car weighs a lot less... They are definitely fast cars for their size.

They don't get much respect until you see one run... then there is MUCH respect.

Keep in mind that a Supercharged Cobalt SS will probably average only about 22-25mpg, so don't expect the EPA listed value for this (or any) car.

It's a pity really, the poor car gets no respect. I get laughs when I bring up the Cobalt. But it's really a great car.

i friend mustang gt smoke one off the bat but keeps up if ur going on a consant speed was very impressed. i take it over the neon for sure.

im thinking about getting a cobalt SS 2.4 and i was wondering where is a good site or company for aftermarket stuff like for the engine, interior, exterior etc. I have looked on ebay they have a few but jegs dont have anything that i could find.

I seen a chip that you suppose to put in them and get 7-10 mpg more and 18hp more does that actually work? I dont know much about new vehicles and would it hurt the comp. or engine. Thanks

My friend has an '05 Cobalt. Had a problem with his sunroof but that is the only real issue I can think of and had to have an alignment adjustment (his fault). The interior is sub-car, but it is their economical line so I was not surprised. The "polished" look they put on all the knobs is wearing off and revealing that it is actually black plastic. The little insert in his door was not flush, and it came from the factory like that. Also, his cd player doesn't play mp3 cds, hope they changed that by ow. They're cheap little cars that get good gas mileage. Don't expect it to be a Cadillac. It'll get you around and for not much scratch.
