If only universities had this mentality then I wouldn't need to be wasting on ethics, humanities, history, etc.

I was being completely sarcastic. That sort of educational indifference is exactly why we keep falling further behind places like India and Asia in every conceivable education metric.

History is probably the most important thing you can learn outside of basic math skills.

Note I never mentioned history because I agree that is something people should know. I'm just saying that most people when they get out of high school don't know anything that is important towards life they just know facts about random things.

Ask a average high school student about economics which is crucial to living and they usually have no idea how to answer it.

Ask the average American anything about economics and they will tell you whatever the media told them. As somebody with an advanced degree in the field, it's absolutely painful.

I was not talking about what is currently happening but what results form certain actions like selling bonds and such. Just using it as an example really.

I could have made the same example with doing taxes really.

In America, with our generation, you could make the same point with literally any subject other than rap lyrics or celebrity gossip.

It was worth the work. Ended up coming out with 27 credit hours. those 6 hours of English saved you from quite a few essays, I'm sure!

We'll of course! Let's count on other people to dictate our lives. It's worked so much so far...

This is what makes history important. I don't remember who made the video nor do i remember who was in it but it showed how multiple times throughout history people were clapping and cheering for a political action to only have the same action strip their rights from them.

Now I do not want this to lead to politics as that is one subject I do not like to discuss with many people as it just leads to problems just wanted to use it as an example of why history can be important. It allows us to see Human kinds mistakes and hopefully try to not repeat them but that has not been successful for many nations

it's pretty pathetic how for we lag behind developed countries, as well as some underdeveloped areas of the world. Education just doesn't have the importance needed to bring us to the top.

There's so much going on right now, it's overwhelming at times. But paying attention to current events and being able to correlate them with history is highly important.
