At that time I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I changed by diet and started exercising. I bought a road bike and have ridden a number of 100 Mile rides but never really lost weight.

Over the next year I gained weight with my diet and exercise. I guess you can't burn 800 calories on your bike, then eat 1500 calories of spaghetti and expect to loose weight. I eventually hit 280 pounds and then 3 months ago the rug was pulled out from under me. I had elevated liver functions and the doctor told me I had to control this or I would go into liver failure.

On February 1st I started to cut back on my food and lost to about 272 in that month. Then I started a stringent diet. I am being monitored by my doctor during this. The diet is limiting my choleric intake to 1200 a day. I have slowly been increasing my exercise as well.

Fast forward to this week, I just weighed in at 225 pound. I have lost 55 pounds since February 1. I have lost 7 inches on my waist.

Most importantly, I received my blood work back. My A1C is at 5.5 so my Diabetes is gone, no more medication. My liver is back to functioning at normal levels and my cholesterol is completely normal.

All I can say to everyone is you CAN do it. It has been tough, but I am about 2 months away from being under 200 pounds.
Holy shit.

That is awesome to hear. So glad you made it. I know you feel a ton better as well. I'm betting your mental health have improved as well. Probably more positive thinking. At least that's how I am. Congrats.

And your car is faster with less weight too.

Thank you. I am feeling much better but have a ways to go. Yes, the intake is low, but it is what I need. When I hit 200 pounds the plan is to start increasing my calories about 200 a week until I hit about 2000 a week.

I have friends in your position that have not changed. Youre right anyone can do it, if they have the desire and the dedication. Its all about self discipline. Again I'm very happy for you! Now with all the money you are saving on medication, you can put some neat little mods on those sweet cars.
Howdy! Thank you for the support. No mods for now. My wife is also dieting with me and has lost a lot. All my money is going to the new bikini's she is buying. <<<<<NOT COMPLAINING

That is why my car feels peppier?

In all seriousness, thanks. I have been meaning to tell Bonnie thanks for all of the motivational comments she posts. I just am not ready to spill my journey on Facebook yet. That is for when I hit 75 pounds lost. Tell her for me though.

Kemah is always my anniversary weekend and my wife is taking me to Keels and Wheels for the Auction on Saturday. We will stop by in the afternoon to visit, but not showing our cars. Unless of course I find a 67 Camaro on the auction block and she falls asleep. I may roll up in one of those!

Hell yes it can be done! That's awesome that you put your foot down and just did it. So many people fear how hard it is to lose weight (and it is, and it takes a long time), but I'd be willing to bet that you're more proud of that accomplishment than most other things you've done huh? I'll tell you, I'm naturally a chubby kid, so I have to work very hard to be where I want. When I first started working out/dieting, I was like a lot of the people looking through this post. I didn't know squat, I didn't know where to start, and it looked like such a long road ahead of me. But I feel better than I did at any point in my life, and I KNOW what I'm capable of doing now. I'm sure you feel a similar feeling, and all of us that have been on the same journey are very proud of you for sticking to it and getting it done

Keep up the great work, and don't let up. It just keeps getting better! And unlike a lot of other hobbies and passtimes... you can literally see results every single week. A different number on the scale, another 1/2" off the waist, another 5 pounds lifted in the gym, another 5 seconds off your mile run, another food urge denied... the list keeps on going!

You are indeed correct. I am very proud, but not satisfied yet. That will come 1 year after I hit my goal weight and I am still there. The hardest thing for me to learn with 6 small meals a day. It amazes me just how much food a restaurant gives you. I eat 6 oz of meat and 2 cups of veggies at my meals. I can remember ordering the 16 oz NY Strip and 1 pound potato smothered. WHAT AN IDIOT I WAS! It is petite Filet and broccoli now.

My HA1c was 10+ (they stopped @10). That was in December 2011. I am one of those people that hates doctors so did not go until my vision stated blurring up (Stupid). By blood sugar was so bad they put me on 1000mg tables for it. After five months I have dropped 50lbs and my HA1c in now maintained between 4.5 and 4.8. My doctor gives me no indication that I will ever come off medication in fact it is the opposite for me. The way he talks I will be on meds the rest of my life. I still test my blood twice a day seven days a week. Glad to here yours worked out better than mine. I never give up I keep my blood sugar below 100 every time it is tested I eat a lot of apples. Very little if any fried foods, gallons of water (the weight loss has slowed) I also do 3.5 miles 3 time a week (walk/run knees don’t take impact well) working on doing more (Not an exercise person gave that up after 20+ years in the military).

So after all that I do have some questions.

Did they say you are non-diabetic or a controlled diabetic?

Do you test your blood still?

How often do you have to get blood work?

Sorry for being nosey I went thru the dietician’s class not much help figured I might get some info from someone that has experienced it.

Thank you
