BCAA's and NO Explode are two entirely different things with different purposes. No Explode is used as a pre-workout stimulant and much of the stimulation comes from a rather healthy dose of caffeine. BCAA's are the building blocks of the body. During intense workouts glucose is used for energy, as it is depleted amino acids are stripped from the muscles and converted to glucose for energy, by consuming BCAA's during working out it reduces the need for the body to use it's own sources of amino acids thus reducing muscle breakdown for energy. Immediately after a workout the muscles are very receptive to nutrients so providing them at this time will allow the muscles to replenish what has been used and allow for muscle repair and recovery. I always mix them with a bottle of water and sip it during my workouts.

Thanks, great info. I just also read up on it on bodybuilding.com. BSN states that after 12 weeks to take 4 weeks off. So I'll order a 70 serving, $40, and let my husband try it out. He takes NO Xplode about a 1/2 hour prior and he can add the BCAAs for after his workout. Again, thanks for your input.

I think he should take them during the workout because that is when muscle breakdown starts, after is beneficial as well but why wait until damage is already done. If he drinks a whey protein shake during his workout that may reduce the need because whey protein has a good dose of bcaa's.

Thanks again, yeah BSN states the same thing, can be taken twice a day, and they recommend taking during the workout, and again later in the day. He takes whey protein, vanilla, after, I take mine while working out, but he likes to throw a big scoop in his morning post workout oatmeal, with raisins and a banana. I'll place an order for the BCAAs tomorrow. Best price I've found is on bodybuilding.com.

Normally I would prefer a post workout meal to be high protein high GI. Oatmeal digests relatively slow so post workout is not an ideal time. The whey digest rather quickly and a ripe banana is high GI but the total meal is not that high. A good protein source and starchy carb would be better overall.

The gf hooked me up with a sweet new pair of lifting shoes for Christmas and they finally came in. They fit perfectly and I'm really looking forward to lifting in them tomorrow!

We both do our workouts first thing in the morning, I only consume whey protein while working out. Hubby drinks N.O.Xplode, then sits on the thrown, and say about 30 minutes later he's starting his workout. Right after his workout he has his oatmeal w/protein/raisins/banana mix. Sometimes another protein drink mid day. He eats pretty healthy, not much junk, but not as active during the winter months. I don't lift heavy anymore, lots of reps and lots of stretching, and I eat super healthy!

Everyone has their own preferences but here is something to think about.

If the only thing he is consuming before his workout is NO Explode, which by the way has arginine in it, arginine can cause diarrhea and/or cramping, then he is already in a catabolic state and further exercise will only contribute to it, if it were me I would have a good solid high protein high GI meal prior to working out but it would take roughly 2 hrs to digest such a meal so if time doesn't permit a whey protein isolate and high GI shake would be a good choice, something simple like the whey and a serving of dextrose or maltidextrose would serve the purpose well. I feel that consuming proteins and carbs pre/post workout are essential for maximizing muscle gains and minimizing muscle break down, they say breakfast is the most important meal but for those who weight train pre/post workout is the most important.

You learn something new every day. Coach Pendlay has coached many world record holders and Olympic champions, he is the writer of one of the programs I follow but never knew he had gear as well, guess you've got to go where the money is.

The best shoes to squat in are Chuck Taylors.

It's been proven in one of those studies

I think I am going to give the BSN supplements a try. Everyone seems to like them and they are relatively inexpensive.

In other news my ex had her appointment with her oncologist today. The cancer has come back and its stage IV :(

I've got a pair myself LOL

I've never used BSN myself

That really sucks. I've had three members of my family deal with cancer, two are now cancer free, my dad passed away as a result of it.

Yes it does. I don't understand how you can have stage I breast cancer...go through chemo to get rid of it....it does yet in them meantime there are spots that come up in your lungs....you go through radiation 5x a week for 4 weeks....have another scan those spots have gotten bigger...have a biopsy and all of the sudden there is stage IV cancer in her lungs....

Just confused and even more pissed at the world now....

I honestly wish I had answers for you but I don't and I don't think anyone does. It seems like some people respond well to treatment and others don't. I think it's a hit or miss type of thing. With all the millions of dollars spent on research it seems like not much progress has been made of recent.

Doing back tonight baby! (as long as it doesn't take me too long to get my harness bar installed after work and before dark)
