I just spend the last 3 days reading 100+ pages in this thread. Man that was a lot of catching up. I don't know if you guys care, but I'll go ahead and explain where I've been.

I moved into my new place about a month ago and it took AT&T about two and half weeks to get my internet turned on (did manage to snag a couple months free from that fiasco, though). After that, my computer has been giving me a lot of trouble lately. But thats not really why I've been around. I do work in IT now, so its not like I'm not sitting in front of a computer at least part of every day anyway.

No, mostly I've been avoiding the site. A little because of the aura of panic that has infused the place, but mostly because being here just makes me feel really, really down. As I said earlier, I moved into a new place. What happened is that I moved from renting and decided to purchase my first house (condo, really, but who's counting?). For those of you that may or may not be following my past since I joined here, you'll know that I foolishly took money from my Camaro fund to purchase an engagement ring, and then HAD to take money out when my then-fiance broke her hip (as neither of us had insurance).

Well, since she left me I've been doing some thinking about my life and part of that thinking led me to buying a place of my own - which is great, because I love owning the place I live in. But, in order to purchase the place I had to supply a 4,500 dollar cashiers check to the title company, which got rid of all but the last 500 bucks or so of my Camaro fund.

What does this mean? That my chances of being able to afford a new Camaro within the next couple years went from slim to absolutely-fricken-none when I bought my condo.

So yeah, I've been avoiding the place. I set my sights too high, I guess. I'm using the money I have left to work on my short-chop project with my Dad. Hopefully I'll be able to afford to buy a nicer used car in the next few months when I get my finances worked out a little smoother. I've been looking at maybe an M6 LS1 GTO (I like the LS2's look better, but I honestly don't need that much power and I'd rather have the better fuel economy from the LS1).

But anyway, I'm back for now, and I need to pad my post count a bit. Let the whoring commence!

Well, its not that I didn't have a roof over my head, its just that I got tired of apartments and roommates and dorm rooms and blah blah blah blah blah.

Maybe I should have just bought a Camaro and lived in it. Anyway, I'm hoping my short chop project will keep me satisfied for the time being. Starting with a 1982 maxim 650. Not the fastest bike on the planet, but stock it covers the 1/4 in 12.7 and I was going to do a stage 1 jet kit, K&N filter, and take the mufflers off (to be replaced with an x-pipe and turn downs, heh). That and all the weight I'll be chopping off, it should be plenty loud and plenty fast.

Yeah. And the total price will be less than 500 bucks, not counting the cost to have the carbs rebuilt and the cost to have it painted (going to go with Dodge's Inferno Red Crystal Pearl. Its one of the closest OEM paints I could find to Candy Apple Red - and I didn't want to have to deal with the hazards of repairing a candy paint job if something happened to the bike.

I'll be doing it a lot like this one

but with the stock suspension and air box/electronics covers, forward controls, and with the rear fender moved rearward just a little bit to make it cover more of the tire (I'll have a bit more leeway on that then he did, because the air box cover will be there still. Meaning I can start the fender right at the end of the cover and it will look just fine, instead of having to start it much lower along the wheel.)

We'll be doing tails similar to the way he did his, with the turn signals acting as brake lights as well, except that I'm also going to hide some red LED strips up under the fender to serve as a center brake light. I don't want to get rear ended. If we have enough space, we're just going to make a custom license plate frame and mount the LED strips onto it, with the plate hanging down over the tire.
