A heart monitor? Still? I guess it is best to take it easy for now....until you feel you are ready again....I do wish you a well recovery!

Actually I feel great. They had to reprogram it because I kept setting it off while working out, The doctor is going to flip when he sees my heart rate

Just did my first upper body work out in 18 months!

Doctor told me I now have no weight limitations after my two wrist surgeries, being in and out of a cast, and occupational therapy for over a year.

Just jumping in on this. I'd really love to lose some weight and just be healthier in general over-all. My problem is that I just can't seem to find the motivation (which i know equates to being lazy..!) When I moved here I was roughly 155-160. I now weigh about 185. My BMI indicates that I am overweight. I smoke also, and I'm trying to quit but finding it harder to quit than I thought. Any helpful suggestions would be fantastic...! Also, I've got the P-90X workout and can't really seem to get in to a groove with it (motivation again...).

Well, the first step in the right direction is joining this thread! You will find great tips, motivational quotes, and plenty of people to help motivate you.

I quit smoking 12 years ago so I have "been there done that" and I know it is tough!! I personally quit cold turkey...I don't know how my husband stuck with me...I was such a bitch I would have divorced myself!! LoL!! Best advice I can give you is to surround yourself with positive people who support your goals. Voice your goals to everyone around you!! Let them know you are trying to quit...ask them to help you stay on track!! You will be surprised how much people will support you! There are smoking cessation classes that are very helpful in quiting smoking as well. Try replacing your "bad habit" with a good one...every time you feel the urge to smoke, go for a walk instead, or if that isn't feasible, try deep breathing. STAY AWAY from substituting FOOD for CIGARETTES!!! That is a HUGE problem for a lot of people who quit smoking!! Part of it is the habit of putting your hand to your mouth the other part of it is when you stop smoking and your nose and mouth aren't polluted with nicotine anymore so food starts tasting and smelling oh so good!! Also, STAY AWAY from things that you associate with smoking...this includes people who smoke if at all possible or you may be drawn back into it.

As for weight loss, since motivation is something that you have admitted to lacking, I would focus on one thing at a time...trying to make too many changes all at once could become overwhelming causing you to just give up on everything. If I were you I would first focus on quitting smoking, then incorporate healthy eating, then add exercise.

All this being said, I will add that I am in no way, shape or form an expert on the subject at hand...just a fellow C5 member who has an opinion based upon my experiences like everyone else. Others will have their input too, just take the advice you think will work best for you and go for it!! No matter what you decide, we will be here to support you all the way!!

Good luck SwitchinToChevy I know you are going to do great!!! Just keep coming to this thread...we are all in this together!!!

BTW, I wanted to add a comment about BMI....IMO BMI is NOT a good measurement of someone's level of fitness...I take some of the most fit guys I know and according to their BMI they are OBESE!! Body fat percentage is a much better measurement of whether someone is obese/overweight than BMI. There have been a few discussions on the best ways to measure your body fat throughout this thread. If you are interested in learning more just do a search in the thread.
