I also have a disabled placard and get looks all the time from people until they see me pull the cane out.

Getting hassled by the cops is also a regular occurrence; here in Illinois they are not permitted to challenge a person's disability only verify the placard belongs to me. The best advise I can give is to keep your cool and thank the officer for verifying the placard belongs to you. Respectfully decline to answer any health questions as they are none of their business.
