Cant understand why no one took him out.....you now how long it takes to file 100 rounds from a semi-auto? and he first through tear gas....not a single ccw carrier in there? or instead of al freezing or pnicking somebody take the guy out close quarter. He had a dan assult rifle....grapple and he cant do much. Have never been in a situation that chaotic yet, but he walked out of the dang place! Scum bag nut case has no soul, I can't imagine the parents loosing kids out to have fun. Where did he get the $ for what thye say he had...60k rounds at home or something? (lots of speculation).

Sad day...

Look, I'm all for CCW...

This guy was very armored up...I'm not sure anyone with a pistol could have taken him out unless they were VERY good in a combat situation (or lucky).

I would have loved to see a CCW person take him down, but the way he was equipped...I think it more likely would have turned out badly in this case.

Still doesn't change my mind about getting my CCW again...which I've let lapse for about 5 years.

It doesn't sound like the guy was hopped up on any drugs, so even when wearing body armor, a round or two in the chest is going to be excrutiatingly painful.

If I put two in his chest and he's still moving, I'm not hesitating to put as many as I can in his noggin.

I think the biggest question I have here is...why? Why did he do this.

He planned this out well, he set up explosives in his apartment, and he's studying to be a neurosurgeon? He definitely didn't want to die here, as he immediately surrendered.

I'm just baffled, here.

This whole situation just makes me depressed...

He reportedly took a large amount of vicodin. I am a CCW holder and believe given his reported attire a hand gun wouldnt have made much difference. You have to figure an AR15 laying down heavy fire makes returning fire difficult. As soon as you take your first shot he will begin returning fire at your muzzle flash. He went in armored and gave up to police, which means he may have been planning on encountering resistance in the theater. If you look at the North Hollywood bank robbery dozens of police firing at two suspects in broad day light did nothing to slow them down. Bringing a handgun to a rifle fight never ends well especially when the guy with the rifle is wearing armor.

This guy wore a ballastic helmet, bullet resistance vest, groin, throat, an leg protection. A CCW Returning fire may have broke his concentration but it would have likely been a suicide mission.

Well, I'd rather die trying than just hoping I don't get hit while running.

Maybe an FN Five-seveN round could penetrate the ballistic helmet?

CCW @ midnight to watch a movie? People probably weren't feeling a threat of being mowed down going to watch Batman. The folks of Colorado are dealing with another unthinkable act of violence. Very sad indeed. Prayers to the victims.

So the media has been saying for two days that the shooter claimed to 'be the joker'.
On CBS this morning they say 'he dyed his hair red LIKE THE JOKER(always thought he had PURPLE hair)....and then say HE DID NOT CLAIM TO BE THE JOKER
Same old News Media. Report stick something on TV as soon as you hear it.....then prove to be wrong. Oops.

Body armor doesn't make you Supeman, the blunt force trauma is still incredible. Even with ballistic plates a center mass impact can take you to the ground and collapse a lung. From what I read it sounds like this guy was wearing an old school Kevlar frag vest, not a carrier with plates. If a 9mm with +P didn't penetrate it would at least have sucked enough to take him down long enough to do more. Jump him or get close enough for a kill shot.
