I bet it goes faster than the times that were leaked last year.

The GT500's Tires/Rims are almost completely flush with the fender only in by maybe a millimeter.......

I won't be taking any car to germany to run the ring ever, I can also bet neither will most people on this forum.
I would be more interested in seeing stateside track times because I CAN ACTUALLY GO THERE.
That argument is as valid as the notion that people's interest in sport team statistics and wins is silly.

Who cares about a sport's team's performance when you're not on the team and don't get paid for their performance?

People enjoy these competitions/stats regardless of their degrees of separation from the event - just because. Why does everything in life have to be applicable?

I think it's now approaching the time where 'Ring management should install a weigh scale AND a chassis dyno that ANY Manufacturer who wants to publicize their 'Ring results MUST use (and share the results, publically) BEFORE their times are released as "OFFICIAL"...

Not allowing cheat rollout starts would be another idea too.....

Even though it seems almost everybody does them to make their times look better

If the cars have to cross the starting line at the same speed then I don't see a problem with it.

This sounds like a great plan. At the same time, surely you would submit that any times prior to this policy are null, void, and not useful as a measure of automotive performance for any car.

I'm sure ALL times posted are "a measure of automotive perfomance for [every] car" listed...

My personal choice would be for [every] "production vehicle" seeking a "Nurburgring [north circuit] Official Time" to be measured on a single consistent dyno and scale prior to their run, and those numbers be posted beside the "lap times". Along with their DOT-approved tire specs.

Apples to apples...

I recall an infamous magazine shoot-out, a number of years ago, where several F-cars were dyno-tested BEFORE their runs...and one tuner insisted on their graph only being shown from 3000 rpm, up. Which it was. And, of course, their numbers and times were the best.

What would have shown up, below 3000? Possibly vastly superior low-end numbers that might have indicated a displacement GREATER than that, disclosed...

I do.... Races generally don't start from a roll, it's the same as inflating 0-100 KM/H times and 1/4 mile runs with a roll. Its not ness scarily cheating but the ZL1 would have pulled the time it did if they had have did a standing start would it have been much longer around the ring? No but starting from 50 MPH for example is going to give an advantage as compared to starting at 0.

Just saying and that is one reason for the controversy of ring times.

If the ZL1 started at the starting line from a standing 0, I think its ring time would have been higher.

Oh I agree it would've been undoubtedly higher but I don't think it would be a huge amount like maybe five seconds or so.

With potentially 10s of millions of dollars on the line even for these niche autos, I can see where the temptation might be there to make the car a little better than stock. That is why I said I agree with your idea. The only car I can think of in recent memory which did not provide tire specs was the ACR Viper. GM claimed a "stock" car for its ZL1 time. I guess we will see what Ford claims with the GT500. Of course, as things are today, there really are not a lot of rules for running these times.
