Typically 160-240 hour weeks for 9-12 months of the year. It all depends on the project. Service work is usually 40hours a week commercial and 50 for industrial. Construction is usually 210 hours a month to 260 cause they wanna just finish the job. That's how it is up north generally. Working construction I'll generally pull in $6000 a month and service work is $4000.

I bought my Camaro when I was 19 with a loan, paid it off in about 3 years by myself.

To all you kids with SS cars or LT cars who don't pay a dime on insurance or the payment: Enjoy the real world when that 400/mo insurance bill comes calling or that 600/mo car payment bill comes and threatens a repo.

To those that actually pay out of pocket each month for their cars: Bravo. To those I mentioned in the above blurb..

WGAFF?

that is what is great about down here... i'm single, 26 and pay $150/month for my insurance on two cars(my SS Camaro and my '00 Cavalier work car), full coverage on both, and only a $250 deductible....

payment is $500 a month on the SS but can still easily manage it with my rent, etc... hell, I even have money left over to mod... now when I get married? yeah, car will be put on the back burner for a while but until then, i'm going to enjoy being young in my 20s and having a kick ass car

besides, as of right now: in 2.5 years, my salary will be DOUBLED... pretty much guaranteed(by contract)

down here, we top out about $25/hr(working contract) but the cost of living is ridiculously low, a 2800 sq. ft. home with 2 car garage, 1.5 acres, etc. in a nice subdivision: only a $175-200,000 home

BUT if my career takes the path I hope, i'll be making over $30/hr with the low cost of living(if I land the annual job I am shooting for)

people can hate on the South all they want but living here and having a good job does have its advantages

Was 18 when I got mine. About to be 19 in a month. Paying for the car plus mods and gas all by myself. Only thing I still get help with is insurance. But I'm also paying my own way through college plus everything that comes with it. (apartment/utilities/food, etc.)

Just because I have a nice cars doesn't mean I don't pay my own bills. I live in the real world, trust me. I just happen to have been working my butt off since middle school to get the things I want.

I'd be a fool to go to college to become an electrician when a BETTER opportunity is available to me... and when you learn a trade like i'm doing, you don't rely on one job, you have a craft for life... because electricity isn't going anywhere, any time soon, lol

I choose to be Union and its a life I love, however, at the end of a day, I will be a state licensed electrician, not just a "Union Electrician"

This is true, you don't need to have B.S. and B.A. to be "Educated" but at the same time you can't compare yourself to an Electrical Engineer. We go to school for two totally different things that happen to be under the same general category. I would love to take some classes that y'all do to get experience in all scales of electrical circuits, as my major is focused on low-power computing systems and digital communication systems.

I'm planning on doing the same thing, opposite order. As soon as I have my car paid off and enough money saved up for tuition I'm going back to school for electrical engineering. Hopefully within a year or so.

Taking our classes would mostly just help understand how the theory is applied in real life. I don't know how many times I've said "f****ng engineers!!" cause it looks good on paper but not real life!

Shweet, it's a fun degree. I have really enjoyed it. Haha nice, we learned that in Senior Design. Come up with an elaborate plan, go to execute it and have to re-engineer the plan to make it work because of unforeseen and overlooked problems.

I was actually enrolled, but 3 weeks before the start date I got a call to start my 2nd and 3rd year back to back, after accumulating 4000 hours already and realizing that after a year the apprenticeship board can scrap my hours I decided to finish what I started so that I have a career if I don't manage to finish engineering.

My brother is actually a computer engineer, which is pretty similar here. So he said he can help me out most of the way. He said it's a breeze but he's also a freaking genious so I dunno. Hopefully it's not too bad!

Gotcha, yea a Computer Engineer is almost identical, just more CS classes instead of control systems and signals classes. Most of my tech electives ended up being CPE stuff.
