The ZR1 is supposed to reach top speed in 6th, but I don't think the Z06 does.

I believe the top speed is drap/RPM limited. If JC said 170, he's dead wrong. Maybe that's the top speed on that track, but I swear I remember a rag' testing Z06 against the GT and Viper, and remember a near 200 MPH top speed. I'm pretty sure it's limited to 5th gear, because the second OD 6th was too long.

I believe DG' is right. ZR1 is, what, limited to 6600 RPMs (7100 for Z06) and I think I remember it tickling the top speed on the Autobon in 6th.

Z06 should run the fastest in 5th gear. With it's 7100 rpm cut off it would be going 222.7 mph in 5th. Of course it won't run that rpm but just shows that 5th is the gear for max mph. Using 26.68 tire diameter for my calculations.

For the ZR1 6th would be the top speed gear. It has a 6600 cut off which would put it at 224.5 mph. 5th gear would only get it to 186.2 mph in 5th at 6600 rpm. At 6000 rpm the ZR1 would be running 204.1 mph which is about what a stock ZR1 will produce. 26.59 tire diameter.

Thats just approximate because there are a few assumptions that had to be made but .... from your numbers, 6300 rpm (peak hp) in 5th on the Z06 equals ... 198 mph. So I'd say we have a pretty definitive answer as to what the Z06 can max out at.

Yep, 6300 rpm is 197.6 mph. Unless of course the tires grow at that speed.

I'm not trying to argue, because I do agree to an extent, but I think they can run better-than-average times, however, are far slower than many of the top drivers we can call members in this Community and abroad. I certainly don't take their results as the fastest, but I think they're pretty representative of an average driver. I know I've only gotten a little more than them, and I consider myself average.

I bet there are more people that run slower than the magazines than run faster, even if all the runs are corrected for DA.
