Personally I think the Optima is a decent looking car, for what it is.

+1 I like the look of it. The wheels are ugly though and the DRLs are too big.

If Toyota can get away with that plastic looking grill, anyone can. I had no idea the Malibu was falling behind in the mid-sized market. Personally, if I needed a mid sized 4 door sedan, I think I would go Malibu hands down. The only cars I feel come close are the new Taurus, and maybe VW passat...

You guys really think its time to redesign this thing? It's reminds me of the last monte carlo... a bit.

You're thinking the wrong segment. Malibu competes with Fusion, Camry, Accord, Sonata, and Optima. That segment is highly competitive and always changing. Malibu was class-leading when it debuted, but we've had a brand-new Fusion with what many consider to be a class-leading infotainment system available and a new Sonata that's quickly gaining ground, both released during its lifespan.

Couple that with GM continually decontenting the car with every model year...it's definitely about time for a new Malibu.

And when you consider it, the current EpI Malibu was launched in 2007. The EpII 2013 Malibu will be launched in late 2011 to early 2012. That's more or less the standard five year product cycle.

VW Passat!?!?! The only problem with the new Passat is you have to look at it when you walk up to it, then you can be seen in it! I have hated the last two passats to come from VW. I am sure they are nice underneath, but would never consider trading mine in on one of those.

Just because it doesn't have a GM badge doesn't make it an insult to automotive design.

Put a ford Grill in it and you have this. Doesn't mean I don't like it. I just think it looks very similar. I like the look much better than the old one.

I think the taurus looks a little bit longer than the Malibu, and the windows aren't slanted... but maybe that's just the angle of the pics Tail lights are of course completely different. But like you said, either way its lookin better
