Gracias man it's kind of a weird situation but the engine might not actually be bad.

So my dad talked to the mechanic right after he told me I needed a new motor and from what my dad told me the mechanic didn't check why the two cylinders on the passenger side (those were the two that are bad, I originally thought it was drivers side cylinders) that didn't hold compression for reasons why they don't. He took off the drivers side cave cover and not the passengers side.

So because of that, and because I don't exactly have the cash available to plop in a new motor I called up GM customer service to see if they could help out at all given the motor has 30k miles on it. They said they will cover the tow to a Chevy dealer so a Chevy mechanic can diagnose it and then report what it needs. From there customer service will give me options.

we shall see what happens! Hope it's valve train related

OUCH! Sounds like some tough luck to me. Maybe GM will toss you a bone and help you out. Best of luck.

Another update: broken valve spring on cylinder 8 and weak springs on cylinder 6. He's replacing those springs and if it fixes it then I'll be a very happy man.

Won't know until next week. The wait might kill me lol

Also mechanics should avoid saying 'it needs a new motor' before saying they haven't searched for an explanation beyond 'it has x number of dead cylinders'
