Come on people... its magazine articles.. until they match em wheel to wheel on asphalt... theres no real comparison. Im still believing that both cars will out perform the other in certain perspectives... ie straight line, braking, cornering, and so on... they both are awesome cars...

Ford threw down big time, props on making that much power.

But the car must be running a lot of boost to run 127 mph with a 5.4 at like 3900 raceweight... I think I read 15 psi.

I've got a friend with a two year old Shelby GT that runs about 130 mph with pulley + CAI so it's not like they weren't already quick.

That said, I'm a GM kinda guy but I need to start modifying this car.

I know a few Mustang owners....I run with a few of them on TnT nights at Speedworld, and nice guys.

I ran with them last December at SW during the Fast Fords and Mustang night. Unfortunaetly for them that night, I was in drag race mode (instead of my usual ET chasing mode) and was hanging 10.90's on them most of the night I think I'm finally going to replace my factory clutch (65K miles) and get a tune...then we will see what happens, but I want to run a new GT500 before that happens (while I'm stock).

The GT500 is a little faster than the ZL1 BUT its not as faster as I had assumed it would be given it has 80hp more, more torque, and less weight. And in the end lets face it not many people are going to go out drag racing these cars anyway due to the collectibility of both and especially now that Shelby is no longer around any more. I think the Camaro is still better in the turns though not by alot. Straightline we already knew the GT500 would win its too big of a horsepower and torque advantage and not to mention the Camaro weighs over 300lbs more. Camaro fans wanted the Camaro to look as much like the concept car as possible the downside to this was the added weight also factoring in that the ZETA platform is heavy already anyway plus IRS adds weight. I would get the Camaro just based on the fact of looks alone the Shelby while nice still looks the same as every other Mustang on the road since the 05 model came out. This is just a result of the Camaro getting back in the game again once the next gen models of all these cars come out it will be more interesting from year to year and not as one sided.

to reduce wheel spin. What i don't get is they said they wanted to reduce wheel spin in this new GT-500 so they lowered the rearend gear ratio to 3.31 but kepted the same 285's out back. why wouldn't u work with 305's or more and then see what traction issues u have. even the 2012's had traction issues.

My car is no match for yours. Hell, I'm sure you can just skip even numbered gears and still beat me. What color is your Z06? I'm out there often, although I don't race my car much.

It's running in the 3s 0-60 and mid 11s in the 1/4. The tires are fine.

I'll bet you the reason they used 3.31 rear gears with their specific diameter tire is so they could reach 60 MPH in first gear and enhance the advertised 0-60 measurement.....no shift required.

How can you say this without the new Shelby being ran at a road course.

The head to head comparisons are coming. Time will tell but Ford has already won the hp war, tq war, 0-60, 1/4 mile, braking, and fuel economy. The most the ZL1 can have over it is one stat and its handling, maybe.

Please dont say it looks better cause thats a matter of opinion. What i just said was all FACTS.

actually, if we're to base everything off motortrend #s (its whatever really), the gt500 is more than just knocking, its sitting down and having a friendly beer with a zr1. so comparing the zl1 seems kind of a moot point. granted they don't have 2012 #'s for a zr1 and im not sure what changed between the model years

but its still got a lot of catching up to do with these numbers http://www.zeroto60times.com/Chevrol...mph-Times.html

Damn i didnt realize they were that close!! Almost identicle. But i believe there are stock ZR1's trapping over 130 stock. I think ive seen 134-135 but i may be wrong. I just dont seethe GT500 trapping 135. Maybe 130-131 in some cool weather and slight traction issues at the line.

Im starting to think now that it would be a closer race between a ZR1 and Shelby than a Shelby and ZL1.

Thats insane.
