If I had to guess its because they're so roomy (SUVs in general)
I got to drive a Suburban a few weeks ago and my wife and I want one for that very reason. Though we (me) aren't giving up the raptor or camaro up for one. Maybe next year, but we'll see

Well the Traverse got bigger. Has 3rd row. I believe it also has a one touch lift on the second row to allow people to get in the 3rd row. No need to hassle with pushing, pulling, lifting, etc. and the price isn’t that bad. And the new look is fantastic, imo. I looked at Hyundai and Honda and wasn’t really impressed.
