So little that it forces the cat to still get food for itself. As long as the cat doesn't train you, and you train the cat. It should take care of your problem when the cat gets bigger and stronger. It takes a tough cat to bring down a cardinal.

Cat's aren't stupid. They just train people to do everything for them. Can't you see their brilliance. That is why they are usually seen as lazy. Because they can be I would be lazy too if people would just give me whatever I wanted all the time. A cat is supposed to be a predator, treat it like one... My cat was a badas$ when he was home. He would leave for a week at a time and go back to the woods for food. I saw him pick a robin off in mid air once. Man, I wish I had a camera on me at the time. Freaking hilarious. My mom didn't think it was very funny though, because she like robins and all.
Lol... Im not much of a cat person. I had several out here at one time... someone kept dropping them off here. I didn't feed them. They would tear into the trash and tear up everything and get on the my vehicles So they had to go... Anyway they were scared to death of this bird. Anytime the bird would come around they would all go hide. lol it was hilarious to watch the bird attacking the cats.

Okay, I have an idea. Throw a pissed cat up into it's tree. Cat will either eat the bird or scare it away.
I heard that you could put an alkacelzer in a piece of bread and that will take care of a seagull. Imagine it would work for a Cardinal too. Oh, my wife would be so mad that I said that.
