Yeah, on this forum. I hate to say this but this is a appearance first forum. There are a lot of great people here that are pushing these cars and care about performance but they are the minority. nhrastocker is about the only person to really push a stock 5th gen see what it can do and coincidentally he has the record at a 12.5. Even the shops around here tend to bolt on parts almost immediately and post dyno numbers. Like I stated, I was at the track and saw a member (1stGM) turn a 12.9 in a bone stock L99. There are a ton of posts here where members have gone to the track and run mid 13's with full bolt-on's and are praised for the number. That's why the 5th gen is perceived to be so slow. Find the right people and the 5th gen is a solid 12 sec. car.

I have to agree, when I was part of the Ford gang with my 04 Cobra, performance is about all that was ever talked about, you really heard very little on styling, or looks of the vehicles, it was mainly how do I make my car even faster.

Also one other thing. Apparently the Super Cobra Jet is an 8 second car from Ford.

^ Nice I love to know the whp but my guess is Ford is staying tight lipped due to its 500hp rating. Ive never seen a FI mod motor rev so freaking quick.

Here is another cool Cobra Jet video I found on Ford Racing's youtube page. One of the engineers hints that Chevy is going to bring something similar to the Cobra Jet and Challanger drag pack to the market at 1:20 in the short vid. This is actually better then back in the good old days, who would of thought that we would still be building and selling these 8 seconds drag monsters right out of the factory and for sale at a dealership in 2011. I don't care who you are a factory built and certified 8 second drag car with 4.0L Blower, trans braked auto and a strange 9" rolling on special 30" slicks is BAD ASS.

2 minute short version

10 minute Step by step Cobra Jet build

Mustang identification

I tried to look this up and didnt find what i wanted. I see tons of mustangs around and honestly can't tell one from another, they all look the same! Is there a definitive way to tell one from the other? I saw a california special today, the only way I knew is because it said so in tiny letters on the trunk.

There are a lot of subtle ways to tell. Kind of like the Camaro SS has the mailslot, the Mustang GTs have the two lights in the center of the grill, base does not. California Special is only available on GTs and usually has a unique pedestal spoiler and/or CS letters on it. The GT500 obviously has that on the sides. That's a basic gist for the ones that are out now, but just like most other cars there are subtle ways to tell (unless the person has modified it beyond recognition).

There are subtle differences. You have to know what to look for.

Which specific models are you looking to identify?

On the GT's: faux gas cap says GT, twin exhaust, GT badging on the side, large fog lights

On the V6: faux gas cap has tri-bar pony, single exhaust, tri-bar pony on the side, pony package has small fog lights plus the "corral", V6 normally comes with rocker stripe on the side

Special Editions: Shelby says Shelby where it's supposed to (faux gas cap, etc.), Roush says Roush (faux gas cap has a 1, 2, or 3 depending on Stage 1 etc.), Saleen says Saleen, Bullitt has Bullitt on the faux gas cap, no running pony in the grill, and no side emblems, Bullitts can come in either highland green or black, California Special say that on the faux gas cap

As always many people modify their V6's to resemble GT's so there are many variations out there.
