Two different cars, two different looks and prices, larger fan base of past owners interested in the "sister car".... It is not competing against each other since it is the same company per se because GM can manage how many of each model they make. The research and development cycle is already complete with the Camaro and only a few minor bumper changes is all the firebird needs along with some badges in the interior.. GM has the G6 and G8 which look similar and could use a muscle/sports car larger than the solstice in the lineup. If the G8 does as badly as the the GTO has, they simply use those plants and switch them up to make the Firebird and breath new life into Pontiac.. To me the G8 looks as bland as the GTO did and does not look like an American muscle car...

The G8 will not bring in the same numbers that the Firebird would and to me and many it looks too plain like the GTO did. The Pontiac G8 plants could quadruple their numbers if a Firebird was in its place. The Pontiac division should bring back the true muscle car design that the Camaro offers and compete as it has. Remember that the Firebird was always priced higher than a comparable Camaro and was considered in a higher segment for the V8's. Now I'm saying bring back the Firebird in a few years down the road after the Camaro has been out as that makes sense since you don't need two exciting cars competing right away so I do partially agree with you for the intial two years of the Camaro launch it is better on its own. However the Camaro fever will die down and it this new Firebird would re-energize GM even further and even if it was competing against each other at that time, GM just increases or decreases the amount made and has not one but two HUGE brands on the market and on magazine covers.. Just look how much excitement the Camaro and Challenger have brought to the table. You gotta keep the momentum rolling.

I don't think another Trans-Am will come out.

Many years ago I bought a Firebird S/E because I got the top of the line WS6 suspension as the Trans-Am but with a high output V6 with the BW 5-speed and a 3.73:1 posi. 50/50 weight dist. It handled awesome. But my buddy then bought an IROC and I was envious to say the least.

I was going to get a Camaro but Pontiac offered much more.

Even if Pontiac brings back the T/A I will get the Camaro SS this time.

My first car @17 was a 1971 LT1 Chevelle with 370hp.

I would love a trans am more then anything right now but it would be a waste to bring it back now. I would also be afraid that pontiac would just buy some forign car and rebadge it to a TA knowing them as of late

on a diffrent note mindz sig really ruins that part of the movie for me on top of his sig being illegal on top of that.

im not a fan of the ones on the top but the white one with blue decals is nice. if they want to make a trans am they have to stick with the same 69 theme that they did with the camaro to pull it off. the ones on the top look more like a 70's than the 60's.

Doing that would be cheap, yes - the same thing they've always done. Take body panels from the Camaro, modify them to a discernable degree and rebadge it as a Pontiac.

But as it's been said quite frequently, if a Firebird were to ever succeed, it would need to be a different car from the Camaro as to not deviate sales from its once-cousin. Basing it off of the second generation 70's Firebirds/TA's kills two birds with one stone as it not only makes it unique from the Camaro and ultimately its own, it also bases it off of the much more popular and memorable decade of Firebirds. When people think Trans Am, they don't think of a white 1969 car with the rally stripes and high rise spoiler - heck, most average people don't even know what the original 1969 Trans Am looks like. What they think of is a 1977-1981 hi-ducktailed, shaker-hood clad, chicken-on-hood mullet machine. Basing it off of the second-gens would be doing the same thing Chevy did with the Camaro: taking styling cues from the most memorable, sought after generation.

I'm impressed with the wing which I would love on my new Z28 and the styles of hood scoops.
I have a certain dislike for Firebird/Trans Am owners. #1 reason. Pontiac gave them more power than Chevy and #2 It would piss me off when someone would pull up and say nice Trans AM. What are you blind man, what the hell does the stripe on my door say? Idiots!!!!!!!

EXACTLY what I was thinking. I'm 17 and I tried to convince my parents to buy the new Camaro but the said no. my mom said "if they built the Trans AM I would buy that in a heartbeat!" a lot of people are like that for one or the other. camaro or T/A. I like both obviously. ( my dad's the odd one, he likes mustangs for some reason...)

I'd be all over a new "Bandit". It has to have the screaming chicken on the hood, too. I had never thought about that, but that would be a good way to go, use cues from the 2nd-3rd generation so that it doesn't just look like a rebadged 5th gen. Camaro.

I'm really curious as to how cool that might look.

I like the idea of the firebird resurrection, I think it will be fun to have GM bring this car back. besides this could only mean two things, two cool looking cars on the street, and less to worry about high dealers prices, thus the more cars with the same body style would have supply equal demand satisfied.
If GM brings the firebird back I hope it looks like this one. the rest look kinda crappy.
