So let's just make it plain. The camaro saved GM. We are all part of the survival of a great company.

GM Loan Paid in Full
Just got this email from GM.
Dear , We value and appreciate your loyalty more than anything. We are proud to announce we have repaid our government loan – in full, with interest, five years ahead of the original schedule. We realize we still have more to do. Our goal is to exceed every expectation you've set for us. We're designing, building and selling the best cars and trucks in the world. Like the award-winning Chevy Malibu, the all-new Buick LaCrosse, the versatile Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon and the innovative GMC Terrain, just to name a few. As we move into the future, we're thankful to have loyal owners like you. We invite you to learn more about the new GM and join our community, by visiting gm.com. And once again, thank you for your support. Susan E. Docherty Vice President, U.S. Marketing http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSWALLFE62P20100421

That’s great news!! way to go GM!
![]() It would have been nice if they had mentioned the HOTTEST car in there line up CAMARO but still great news!now GM can tell all those people who complained about the bail out to go @#*#% them selves. I know they still have a long way to go but at least GM is making the effort! Unlike AIG... not paid back 1 penny yet! ![]() Way to go GM |

I believe GM borrowed the money (from TARP) to pay off the loan. So in the end they still owe that amount and it seems to be a bit of PR work in the media. Also they still have to pay the Government a hell of a lot of money to buy their stock back.

Article reads that they repaid TARP in full. This is good news.

rudac, do you know where the funds came from? GM certainly did not make that much profit. I don't see it in the article. They paid back the "Government Loan" which is not the TARP.

![]() I concur. My personal opinion is that Obama et al will push to lower the American federal government's ownership of GM America to < 50% from it's current 60% holding. GM will go public again, and investors will rush to purchase the small amount of stock the government is shedding, driving the price up. Supply & demand will snap back and forth over a morning... with saturation hitting by mid-afternoon with the stock still selling above IPO, barely, by closing. A quick, one-day "gold rush" with marginal gains over the first week. Should definitely be interesting. If I'm right , you'll see several "leaks" from the Obama Administration within a week of GM's new IPO, concentrating 48 hours before "go" time.Nothing's a guarantee, of course, but I paid for most of my 2010 Camaro from American stock gains and dividends this past year.
