You may not see it yourself, but your responses *are* coming off as defensive and hostile. This reply to me is a case in point. You're assuming, or at least insinuating that I am having a hard time comprehending something, then telling me to re-read your post.

Yet you've made no effort to answer the question I asked. Is this always how you respond when asked a question?

When I was young, everytime I got pulled over, I got a ticket. Now, that I'm older, and I won't say how old, I never get I ticket just a warning. I think cops don't like young punks. What they don't know is that I'm an old (older) punk!

Probably because some of these guys are boring suburban policemen that points a radar gun on his partner's donuts to clock how fast he can devour it and get paid over 6 figures doing it. That's how these cops can afford their C5's and C6's. Sorry dude, I'm not giving any policeman in suburbia (any state) a 6 figure salary unless they are seriously putting their lives on the line. Meeting monthly quotas for citing excited Camaro owners for doing 10MPH over the speed limit is not worth that kind of money.

Get your overpaid butts to NYC and get involved in the NYPD and then talk to me. Those grunts on the streets should be getting 6 figures. 2 white cops in the middle of an angry mob at Malcolm-X Boulevard, Harlem, trying to maintain peace there. That's what I'm talking about. I've seen it. Most policemen in suburbia love the reward without the risk. Get your hands dirty and get paid. Get over yourselves and think of something better to do with your time than speed trap people like the thread OP here.

It's the same guy that chewed me out a few months back. Nasty attitude and never explained himself at all even though I never said a word to him. Hopefully in PM's he's more civil with you than he was with me.

I am a State Trooper and I have had people do a burnout because they were mad because they have gotten a ticket and done just what you said and I stopped them just like I said.

I already have your information from the previous ticket so IF I went to stop you and you wanted to run, I can just go get a warrant for a whole lot more charges and come and get you in the middle of the night or at work instead of endangering everyone since I already know who you are.

There is no need to turn this into a pi$$ing contest, I am just saying that throwing gas onto the fire is not going to help the situation.

I discovered a site awhile back that I will be shopping at the MOMENT I get my Camaro. It's called radarbusters.com. It's run by a guy who goes by the silly moniker of "Radar Roy."

Roy (if I recall correctly) is a former cop who freely admits the 'inside' tricks they use to nail drivers -- aiming for your front plates (the most reflective spot on your car); the fact that darker cars tend to not reflect the beam as well while bright colors do; etc.

Anyway, on his blog and on his site, he says a detector by itself is useless and a waste of money. And site that claim to sell a radar "scrambler" are either A) frauds or B) selling something that is a felony to possess as radar is governed by the FCC and interfering with it is a HUGE no-no.

However (SS owners take note here) he also says that since many agencies are switching to or have switched to laser -- *that* is perfectly legal (in most states) to "scramble."

He sells a few festive little devices which quite literally make it so a laser gun gets back nothing but dashes when it's pointed at your car. He even has videos demonstrating it up on his site.

Of course, being a former cop, he says his intent is not to advocate you driving like a jackhole because you won't get pulled over. In fact, he says cops are trained to 'gauge' speed by sight and if you're being too blatant with your accelerator, you'll get nailed anyway. His products just help to cover your butt if you're in a group doing a 'common speed' that just happens to be higher than the posted limit.
100% WRONG!!!!

Your confusing RADAR detectors with laser. Ever since i've had my valentine i've not been pulled over at all. Radar detectors are a very good early warning device as long as you use it correctly.

One time I went to Krisppie cream donuts and bought a full box of donuts. As I was leaving the place I made an illegal left turn and a black and white pulled me over. I grabbed the box of donuts and put it on my lap. When the officer came to my window he asked, "Do you know why I pulled you over"? I then grabbed the box of donuts and replied, "cus you can smell 'em?"

j/k

Hey man I respect you and all your bretheren, you are just doing your job, and these A holes that break the law want to blame Every officer every time they are stopped for an unjustified stop.. There is always a reason that the officer has stopped someone, never because they didn't like the way the person looks, or the kind of car he is driving, unless there is some sort of safety violation with the car.

These people need to own up and just obey the law... I am sick of reading these threads where it is always the cops fault for stopping them.(most of the time they will admit somewhere in the thread they were speeding or some such foolishness). usually they are repeat offenders and still want to complain.. What an Idiot they are.. and they continue to be idiots by not learning from their mistakes.

PS I have been driving for over 40 years and I have never been stopped for any reason other than when I deserved it... Good job Officers, and get the Idiots off the street!

Just like guns people kill people not speed.
If a 5.56mm bullet went 5fps instead of 3000fps, would it be as likely to kill you?

Ever driven on the auto bahn in Germany?
Yes. I lived in Germany from 1983-85, have you? It takes a lot more money and effort to get a license for the average German, and they show a level of consideration (faster traffic to the left) that I've never seen on American highways. The autobahns are also better built, with very large radius turns, and barriers that prevent anyone from crossing the median.

Quote:
To many cars on busy roads is the cause of most accidents not speed itself IMO. Along with drivers that make mistakes not due to their speeds.
The question was, are lower speeds inherently safer. Ask yourself, 'is an accident at 5mph safer than an accident at 100mph'?

Quote:
You have more of a time to react at slower speeds than you do at higher speeds. And less of a chance to get injured during an accident at a slower speed.

You have the same reaction speed. It's a biological factor.
You have less time to react at higher speeds, even if you're reaction speed is the same, because of the rate at which you are traveling (your speed). Notice the extra 50 feet required to stop from 70mph vs 60mph? That's the ground you cover just slowing to 60mph (meanwhile someone going 30mph could have come to full stop and you're still going 60mph)

Quote:
Aside from associating every nationwide fatality in an automobile with speeding,
I asked you a question to answer yours. How many fatalities do you think we'd have if speeds were limited to 5mph? Answering that honestly will answer your initial question of whether or not slower is inherently safer.

Quote:
you have a good point, but I'm not suggesting that fatalities are associated with driving slower.
I'm telling you that they are associated with driving faster. Good luck causing a fatality in a modern car governed to 5mph.
force = mass x (velocity / time)
Raise the force in the accident and you make it less safe for the participants.

Quote:
I'm suggesting that there is room for reform, not revolution.
We're losing over 37,000 people a year in the balance between safety and convenience. How many more to fill your need for speed outside the track?
