One officer makes a mistake and everyone wants a public hanging. Police do a lot of good that most people never see or hear about. I wonder if the public think so little about police officers. Then why do they call 911 for every little nonsense problem they my have. I'm not trying to down play what happen. But one cops mistake does not represent every man, women that wear the uniform proudly and with honor.

It's something that happen's a lot that one guy got caught for. He should have an example made of him. I cant tell you how many times I see a cop driving at 20+ over the speed limit just because they can.

Yea okay, and you walk around with a radar gun in your back pocket too. Give me a break. Do every law enforcement officer out there a favor and don't bother calling them the next time you break a finger nail. And need help putting on a band aid.

Always a possibility that they are responding to a call that code is not authorized by the department. Such as a suspicious person by your bedroom window taking a peek at your daughter. I would want an officer there as quick as possible. Not all cops speed for fun. Wow thats a suprise.

I don't care who it is, a cop, a firefighter, a priest, barney or big bird, if you kill someone, justice should be brought upon you. This is not the first time a cop has done something like this. I have seen it just recently happen in my area as well. A cop was coming up to a stop sign, without his lights and ran into the back of the person. I will say, the majority of cops, I notice, always do speed. They drive like morons around here, and when people see that, it shows them one thing, it shows them that they think they are above and beyond the law. That they are better and that they can do anything they want.

Honestly, the cops around here are useless, you can call them, and they won't show up for hours, and if at all.

I hope to god this dude gets sentenced. If not, like I said, it shows that fame and being a cop can get you out of almost anything.

the officer in this instance wasn't responding to anything, and I find it unlikely that even a small % of the Cop's I've seen doing the same thing were responding to calls as apposed to abusing their immunity to being pulled over.

Even if he was, he should have had his lights on.

Nothing I haven't done before but not at that speed.
The article stated the light was flashing red. Meaning that it was a 4 way stop. The kids driving the car could not anticipate that the cop wasn't going to stop.

This thread has been an eye opener to me, I've had my fair share of involuntary interaction with the law when I was young dumb and full of myself, had no use for em, felt infringed upon and can relate to the hang em high mentality...but (i'm gonna do it) having gained the experience of seeing first hand what law enforcement goes through and having come to rely on law enforcement as a business and home owner and having a good friend and a nephew who proudly wear a badge see another side of the men (and women in blue). This is not about the generalities of whether cops are good or bad, this is a tragedy caused by the piss poor judgement of a single individual who happened to be a police officer. This could have easily been an accountant or an iron worker or the service manger at your dealer or god forbid you or me doing something we KNOW we souldn't but do any way.

This individual sould be held accountable to the same standard of law as you or I would and hopefully he will be. If not then shame on those who would shield them from being held accountable.

I've learned on this forum that I will never convince an opposing viewpoint that they are wrong however those who serve and protect are just people like you and me and are no better or worse than you and me...
