If half the posts suggesting someone like this homeless guy should have been shot and killed were even close to being actually done, the streets would be littered with bodies nation-wide on a weekly basis...

It's those that carry, and "just can't wait" for the opportunity to carry out some Rambo fantasy are the ones that give guns a bad name, imo...
And it's sad to see some so pre-occupied for so much of the time, just looking for such a chance....Whatever... it's basically all immature bs...
I think you are way off. I don't think any normal people have a desire to take human life. If put in a position of him or me dies, I choose him, I've imagined what's that's like, after the fact, and I don't like it. It's forever, but that doesn't mean it might not one day be necessary. I can only hope not. I do my thing right now, go through my day, I don't worry about, don't even carry a gun even though I have some and could if I want, just hope I never find myself in the position to have to take a life, but I will if I have to, but I don't think it would ever be without remorse.

Obviously you have never been in a situation even close to this. Anybody coming toward your car with a hammer in his hand is also coming toward YOU with that hammer. Like I said before, you've got less time to decide whether the perp has sheetmetal damage or skull fracture in mind than it took you to read this.

You floor it and get away.
All good provided that you have an escape route. But even getting yourself and your car clear without damage still doesn't alter the fact that you were clearly at risk of severe bodily harm. I hope you wouldn't wait to get hit with that hammer before deciding that the target might really be you personally.

Good answer. Just busting your chops! Love football as much as Chevrolet cars. I am more of an NFL guy, but since moving to southeast, I have grown to enjoy college football more.

I have a weapon at all times in my vehicle. Do I hope I get to use it? No Do I want to shoot someone? No. I carry it because I cant know what everyone's intention are. I carry it because if it comes down to me choosing if I die or he dies.

Now I think we all get on here and go overboard with some of our responses sometimes. But I think most here know that we try to remove ourselves from the situation first and use our weapon as a last resort.

It is kinda fun reading the anti gun peoples responses though.

I am not anti-gun, just anti stupid, and when someone responds with the act of violence as the first reaction, making use of the firearm not the "last resort" but the "first move", then it jumps right into the land of stupid. Don't think those that respond harshly to that response are anti-gun, there just intelligent. Your response shows that you are very logical as well.

I'm going to guess that's going to go farther downhill from here - so here's my IBTL prediction.

Personally I think the OP did the right thing by driving away.

Yes, there are some situations in which violence begets violence. There are certain situations in which lethal force is your only option and that I get and that use of force I can support. BUT, and this is a rather large but here, It's a hammer and a car. OP was IN the car.. The car was running. The myriad of other options that do not include ending another human beings life surely must come to mind.

No one was saying he should have called the police while he sat there and waited to see what the guy was going to do, just remove yourself from the situation and then alert the authorities as to the situation in hopes of helping someone else.

I do truly hope that the majority of these posts honestly are just interwebz tough guy talk and not peoples actual thought process. I LOVE my car.. LOVE IT!! But I would never end someone’s life for vandalizing it. Regardless of how angry I was. It's a life, people!

The OP did the right thing in leaving the situation. Perhaps he should have called the police following the incident, but the fact that the majority of posts are all perpetuating escalating the situation to ending the life of another human being is both mildly scary and quite disheartening.
c'mon.

Put yourself in the place of the driver of that PT Cruiser in the video. Nowhere to go, crazy guy is beating the crap out of your car, and your loved ones are screaming in terror.

You don't do anything? yeah right.

I am prior law enforcement "10 years", and any person(s) approaching your vehicle possessing anything which could produce great bodily harm or death is considered an armed threat. There is a chance that the man could have just hit the car with the hammer and retreated, BUT there is an equal chance that the man would have shattered a window and attacked the occupants with the hammer, you do not have alot of time to make a decision. If ANY person is approached by an agitated individual carrying a dangerous item with the intentions of assault, you should be in fear of your safety. Yes, the OP did the right thing by fleeing the area, but he also had this option, you wont always be so lucky and have an escape route. Then what? Are you gonna wait to see what happens??

I hope that the answer is NO
