Yes, but a BIG chunk of those lost viewers are due to Leno's program being before Conan's. People are lazy. If there is a good show on in primetime, they'll stick around for the news, then the tonight show. If the primetime program is lousy, viewers change the channel and don't come back.

THIS is why Leno's 10pm show is being cancelled. The local affiliates are complaining that Jay is killing the audience for their most profitable night show--the 11:00 news!

I LOVE GM vehicles, and particularly Chevy's, but would buy any GM vehicle if I had the $$...Hopefully, one day, soon enough, a 5th Gen CAMARO! Dave_O

I don't buy that argument . It's been pushed for a while. I have a remote control. Had one for a very long time. What news i watch and what late night show i watch has nothing to do with what i watch at 9 or 10. I flip channels constantly, and i think most other people do. I think Jay's 5 million viewers followed him to 10, and Conan's viewers moved ahead an hour with him. Conan was actually closer to George Lopez in viewiers (1.5million vs. 2.2 million) than he was to Letterman(4.2 million).

Right, we followed Jay Leno to 10 pm. Will follow him again.

Leno started out with 12 million viewers, but the ratings tanked to about five million. Regardless of your TV viewing habits or mine (I also click around), most people stay on one channel. Leno killing the local news is the reason the affiliates freaked, and the reason NBC decided to move him back to 11:30, not because of Conan's numbers. That's a fact.

Predictably, Conan's ratings were lower than Jay's--his style of humor is completely different than Jay's (read: it's actually funny), so of course NBC and Conan would have had to work hard to regain ratings. Their audience shifted. Same story as when Leno took over for Carson.
