I'm pretty lucky but I still need to be careful. I work in a direct bill environment so if I'm not billing a customer my company doesn't really care what we do... As long as my project bills the customer correctly, the time of day is not that important as long as everything adds up. So I just have to be sure I am working the hours billed and all is well. But overhead employees don't have that luxury.

As long as I get my work finished and proposals in on time then I can surf as much as I like.

Sure, I get that. but I have the ability to bill for my hours, so I can go back and say, I wasn't browsing the internet while billing this customer or that customer if you are an overhead employee, you are always on company time so you have to be doing company stuff or you aren't doing what they pay you for.

I know it sux but that is a pretty typical catchall. LinkedIin has changed the way companies feel about social networking... But smaller companies still don't like the whole web 2.0 social networking thing. As soon as the marketing and Business development folks figure out a way to turn social networking into revenue, they'll come around too.
