To be completely honest sales at this point don't mean anything...It's probably why Microsoft doesn't seem to threatened by Playstation sales. With the consoles being so close in architecture Exclusives will win this race. That and who has deeper pockets. Good EXAMPLE is how Microsoft got a hold of Titanfall exclusivity of the first game. That game will sell consoles also. Look at what happened last Gen, even with 360 having a headstart PS3 outsold it

For those who say that they will wait for the next Titanfall to be on PS4 keep this in mind. The game is being published by EA. And the president was quoted on saying that he is going to keep three games on rotation when it comes to releases....Battlefront, Battlefield, and Titanfall. Judging by the release sequence so far it is safe to say...Titanfall 2014, Battlefront 2015, Battlefield 2016, Titanfall 2017. And thats only if Microsoft doesn't but out exclusivity for that also. Even though Respawn is making the game They can't decide what console they want it on...EA does that. Respawn was even surprised when they found out Titanfall was exclusive to X1...Just my thoughts

Sony will win the war on exclusives. Microsoft can't throw money at third party studios forever for one-off exclusives. Eventually, they'll need to buy some studios and make them first party, and right now, Sony has the best first party studios in the business.

And now, almost anyone will be able to experience The Last of Us with a very low cost of entry...FURTHER strengthening Sony's dominance over the home console front.

Fortunately...they can. That is exactly what happened last gen. It's one of the reasons they dont need many first party studios. Have you seen the how much Microsoft as a company made last year compared to Sony. Money isnt the problem. With Microsofts long term plan it has been said that Microsoft doesnt even view Sony as a rival...THAT is saying something

Here is a good article that helps explain

Why Microsoft doesn't need to buy first-party studios

by Andrew Yoon, Nov 06, 2013 10:30am PST

Nintendo has quite a stable of first-party studios, owning its various EAD studios, Retro, Intelligent Systems, and Monolith Soft. Sony also has an equally impressive collection of developers, including Japan Studio, Polyphony, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Sucker Punch, London Studio, Guerrilla Games, and Media Molecule. But Microsoft's stable of internal first-party developers working on games is quite small in comparison. Instead, Microsoft tends to work with third-parties for exclusives, like EA with Titanfall, Capcom with Dead Rising 3, and Crytek with Ryse. Does that approach make sense?

Microsoft Studios VP Phil Spencer noted that their approach has worked, and pointed to one of the biggest successes of the previous generation: Gears of War. "I've just never taken the approach that I need to own a studio to work with them. If I look at the 360 generation, our partnership with Epic over that generation was incredibly strong," he said. "A first-party should be judged by the games you put out that are exclusive to your platform."

And most studios might not want to be acquired, Spencer points out. "Did they even want to be owned? There can be some value to owning a studio, but in the end, the studio's just a holder of the great people that work there. You've got to be matched with the motivations of the people in the studio. They can always walk away. It's not like owning the brand name is owning the employees there," he said.

"I don't focus on the number of studios that we own. I don't think that's what gamers play. Gamers play the games we put out. My dedication and commitment to Xbox One and Xbox customers is that we'll continue to invest in core franchises, whether it's from Remedy as they stay as an independent studio or Turn 10 or Black Tusk as internal studios, they're all first-party games and they're equally important to us and we're fully invested in them."

Nobody will let a business they have lose that much money. It's bad business and it will be stopped eventually. To think otherwise is foolish.

When you have the money you can do things the way you want

Just to show the gap money wise between the two...

Sony Market Cap: 17.86 Billion

Microsoft Market Cap: 303.28 Billion

Yep...I'm sure they became a multibillion dollar company by wasting billions of dollars hoping something would become profitable. They're not privately held. If a business section becomes a liability, the board will make sure it ends. Actually, what will happen is they will no longer be allowed to spend money wantonly. As their budget dries up, so will any minor advantage they could have eeked out in the console space. It will happen.

The numbers DON'T mean a lot right now, however, the fact that there aren't any stores that have PS4 stock, while I went to two separate Best Buys that only had XBone stock does.

Just defending Xbox here.

I dont think you realize how much these companies lose with these gaming systems.

See, there's proof YOU don't know what you're talking about. It seems you have no idea that for a few years now, the Playstation portion of Sony's business was the only profitable portion. They were losing money everywhere else until Kaz was sent to lead the company.

BOTH companies suffered a major loss with the previous Generation..ESPECIALLY sony...

2.996 Billion for Microsoft, and 4.99 Billion for Sony
http://www.vg247.com/2013/01/07/xbox...s-grim-future/

What REALLY sucks is that Sony is actually dying....practically putting all there chips in the PS4 which i honestly hope succeeds

I can't access relevant articles from work, but the Playstation has been profitable since about 2010 IIRC.
