Again, everything in your world can be hunky dory....if you aren't strong enough you aren't strong enough. Example....I'm a stong mofo...really strong...but Dznts squats in the 700's...I squat in the 600's....

I recently retired (ok I work from home but it's a joke and its working for myself), I sleep all I want, I eat good and all the time....it's not going to make me squat what Dznts does....

I understand this but I think you may have misunderstood my point. For example, let's say your squats 1RM is 300, of course you can't jump right in and expect to do 350 but you would expect to do 300, sometimes you just can't even if you feel like you can and all known factors are the same as when you could. Then there are times when you think you will struggle with the 300 and find yourself adding plates. The point I was making is that the mind and body don't always agree.

Possibly I misunderstood but I was just going off what you said below which in a nutshell was everything is great so I add more weight and I get crushed and I don't know why.

So I was telling you...you weren't maximally strong enough.

LOL. We can go back and forth forever with this and most likely will for a bit, maximal strength is very rarely achieved by anyone, the body has many mechanisms built in to prevent it. In a more general way what you are saying is correct. That statement was in addition to previous statements on how the body and mind don't always cooperate. To take it further there have been times when you add a measly 5 lbs and can't make the lift for what ever reason, so you walk away, regroup, take a sip of water and hit it again and then succeed. You didn't get stronger in that 5,10 or 15 min. That is the point I was trying to make.

Um we aren't talking about the golgi tendon, or women whose kids get trapped underneath cars and how they somehow lift them off...

We are talking about people in the gym lifting max weights.

When people miss lifts, then attempt again and make them its a form correction....always. And while I understand your point of the mind getting the body to do it, ultimately it is the body doing it and thus a physical attribute not a mental one.

It may not necessarily be so, it isn't always physical, it can be psychological, neurological, nutritional, technical as you mentioned and a host of other things. Some of these factors don't change immediately, such as nutritional but others do. I think an example that would explain this would be something like a leg extension with use of a machine, form is controlled by the machine to a large degree so it wouldn't necessarily be form in such an instance. Trying to make a lift and failing and then shortly after succeeding could be as simple as the initial try triggered a response that aided in the second try.

I'm not looking forward to the "resolutioners" coming in after New Years.

They never wipe down equipment and they don't know proper gym etiquette.

Hopefully they don't come in at 5am and disturb the peace

When I was referring to "form correction" I was referring to the 3 main lifts on a max 1R attempt.....

Never known anyone to do a 1RM on the leg extension but ok....it still boils down to are you physically capable of doing it. All of the psychological, neurological, and nutritional factors are secondary. If you aren't these factors are irrelevant.

LOL. As long as they aren't doing curls in the squat rack I don't have any issues.
