Just curious. I've never finished at the foul line . Im about a foot or more from it , so would moving up in my approach make that much a difference ? Seems like for me anyway id have to redo all my mechanics . Now if the ball is coming up high I just move up without worrying about the foul line . Carrying 198-204 on 2 leagues and I'm fairly consistent.

But it sounds like your swing timing was still off based on your release issue. Note: I'm an engineer, not a bowling coach; so my observations here are may or may not hold water...
Judging by my video from last week, if I tried to just move up, Id be in front of the ball return since I noticed my steps are very small. I had never noticed that before, but it looks like I only cover about 3 feet of area in 5 steps. I dont really wanna move up because then that just looks silly. I had my mom video me the other day when I was doing the longer steps, and my timing actually looked better. I ended up about a foot off the foul line, but I can live with that, as I dont slide at all. I plant and come through, so I have naturally late timing. I really liked the way I looked, and so did my dad when I showed him. I think Im gonna try and keep it up. I have this week off work to work on my car, but I may head up to the lanes and throw a few to work on the approach.

I wouldnt worry about 1ft. I literally am about 3 1/2ft off the line. To redo the complete mechanics of your shot for that little amount of space would be silly. Id be jumping up and down if I was only a foot off!! Lol! Do you project the ball out on to the lane, or do you drop it down on the approach when you release?

Went 651 (216, 180, 255) first week back. Been working on getting closer to the line and its starting to get a little more comfortable. Instead of working on bigger steps, I did what you suggested and just moved up, but at least elongating the first step. Figured one step at a time...lol. (Stupid pun) Going to try and maintain 215 avg. Just for my own personal doing.....

Good set. Looks a little like some of my recent ones: decent game, a slight hiccup, then pulling it all together. Did your ball speed or reaction look any different?

Ya, couldnt carry shit in the second game. I think I prolly left every pin by itself somewhere in that game. Lanes were breaking really hard. The last ball of that 180 game, I was doing some site seeing with another ball. I put it out on at least the 2 board, and it came back and crossed the head pin! But that seems to be the goofy thing with this bowling alley is there is no lane to lane consistency. One set with break hard, the next set your ball wont move anymore than 8-10 boards max. Really weird. Ball speed in my opinion looked normal. (about 16mph) Ball reaction looked great. Wish it looked like that every week! Dad shot good with his new ball. (603) But if he didnt put it out there, it would split every time. Mom needs some work with her ball. She typically plays straight up 5, but not with this ball. She was making small moves left but the ball was still too much. She had the 6-7 split about 8 times. She needs the heavier dressed lanes. I dont think she liked playing as deep as the ball wanted her to. She'll get used to it!

1000th post! Though the post count on the section page shows more for this thread...? And the page count shows one more page than there really is...? Weird.

Anyway - off to happy hour and then to the lanes...

225-212-226. Whiffed three single-pin spares. FFS, that needs to stop! Oh well, a good night regardless. I let my elbow get out a few times, but my timing and balance was for the most part spot on. Other than a couple of lucky cross-overs (result of the "chicken-wing" elbow), the strikes were pretty much all drilled. Every spare attempt but two were after 9-counts, so I was sniffing around the pocket all night. Only one split (4-9) - that was a certainly welcome change from last week...

nice set . I hope to be back bowling next week myself . Got my stitches out from surgery this week so we'll see .
On another note I'll have to post pics of our New bowling monitors and info stands that are being installed this week . Our AMF center was bought out and some changes are now taking effect .

I wonder if AMF will be around bowling at all in the future. At least half of the AMF centers around my area have closed during the last 10yrs or so. Is the house an independent operation now?

Good set man!! AMF is huge out here. About 5 or so years ago, they all went through a huge redesign. I dont see them closing any time soon. They put a lot of money into them. All new lanes and everything.

Shot 612, (198, 200, 214) Really cant tell you how many fast 10s I left. After about the 4th one, I started getting pissed and was whiffing them. Made the score suffer, but God thats frustrating!!!
