Had a much better night last night, even though it was sweeper and didnt count. 225, 233,222, 680. Went back to a polished ball, and that was all she wrote. Im thinking since it was a sweeper night they may not have oiled the lanes before league. That ball was hauling ass. It was nice to throw it again, I love that ball. Just doesnt do anything in high oil situations.

Have you guys ever recorded yourself bowling? I had my dad video me on Tuesday night and he just emailed me the file, and let me tell you, it looks a lot cooler in my head!! Not that it looks bad, I just envisioned different.

Nice job! I know from experience that back injuries can be a bitch...

Oh yeah - reality can be pretty f-d up!!! I had the CATS analysis done on my game when I was out at the Nationals in 2004 and it was quite an experience. I was having some wrist/elbow pain at the time and the video clearly showed how I was holding the ball for a long time at the top of my back swing so the rest of me could catch up. But my timing was SO early that by the time I reached the line, the ball was out of the frame six feet down the lane. It looked so retarded...my buddies were laughing their asses off. Somehow they never noticed it while we were bowling - just on the video. Ah, fun times...

Tonight I struggled in the middle of the first game, but got it together for the rest of the night: 185-245-252 for a nice 682. Bumped the average to 203 for the first time since I took a year off two seasons ago. I wish we could have swept the night, but we fell 14 pins short in one game - we were spotting them 180 pins/game so no mistakes were allowed...

Nice way to save the set!! As you said, the video kinda made me look retarded! Lol! Im 6'3", and I guess I never noticed, but my footsteps are incredibly short!! Ive always had a foul line phobia ever since I went over the foul line, slipped backwards, threw the ball up, and it landed on top of me. Ever since then, my release point has always been about 2-3ft behind the line. That I knew. But I just didnt realize that my whole approach is only about 4ft long. Also noticed that I was turning the ball too early. Im on the outside of the ball as its passing my ankle. I have 2 weeks off. Guess I gotta figure some shit out, real quick!

Thanks. I've been on a bit of a roll - eight straight sets at 615 or higher. I started the run at a 192 average. Either I've improved or the shot is soft as shit... Eh, probably a little of both.

Turning the ball over early is a bad habit for me as I mentioned above. The only "cure" for me has been to focus on keeping my elbow in and forearm square. The only problem is when I don't put any finger in the ball and send her sailing wide right...a classic double-cross!

Nice sets for sure ! I feel any time you/I can shoot a 600 set is a good night .

Last night was my last night of bowling for a month at least .. I'm having foot surgery today a noon -
I shot 204-217-195=616 on a 194 avg. I'm happy with my night . going to miss bowling but got to get this foot pain dealt with . Wish me Luck !!

Thanks. Unfortunately all things must come to an end. My mechanics were not very consistent last night, despite the fact that my scores were: 196-192-199. Punched out in the tenth in all three games to grind out those scores. The team as a whole struggled as well and only took 1 point, which makes my scores even more disappointing to me. Better luck next time...

I definitely wish you luck regarding your surgery - I've suffered from foot/ankle pain as a result of a past major injury, and it's no fun. Is your trouble in your slide/plant foot?

Not that bad of a set! Its better than my friggin 480s! I bought my mom and dad both new bowling balls for Christmas. Dad says now that he has something that will move, Im gonna have to start working overtime to payoff all these dinners Im gonna be buying! I think we're gonna take my moms ball down on Monday to have it drilled. I want him to drill it stacked so it will be aggressive. She doesnt have the wrist she used too, so we're gonna make the ball do all the work! Hopefully do some bowling this weekend to fix some of those problems I found on the video.

Yeah, you're right, it's not too bad. I just wanted to keep the string of sets alive.

Since you bought your dad's ball, when the bill comes, he should have to pay the tip...

What balls did you buy? I'm actually looking to get something new myself, though a friend just gave me a lightly used Hot Sauce to replace the one I have that is cracked. (Yes, I've been rolling all these "big" sets with a cracked ball...)

I bought dad a Storm IQ Pearl, and got my mom the brand new Brunswick Mastermind. I typically only buy Storm or Rotogrip, but the Mastermind looks like they built it to haul ass, and thats what I wanted for my mom. The IQ line has a low RG core which allows it to spin up faster and carry the momentum through the pins. I like to throw low RG cores because they have more snap in the back end, which is what dad needs. We have pretty similar styles, I just have a little more rev rate than him so I know it will do what he needs. I spent about 5 hours doing research to find what fit them best. Im hoping I made the right decisions.

Yeah, I need a little help in the rev department myself - the CATS analysis I mentioned above clocked me at 190RPM. My teammate came in at something north of 450...lol... I'm frequently using a 10yr old XXX Factor which has a low RG core. I was thinking of a DV8 ball, not sure which one, but a buddy of mine has nothing but good to say about his.

Last night was another grindy kind of night where my scores fell off as the lanes got drier and drier and the area got narrower and narrower. 214-188-169. I had three splits in the third game, five for the night. Couldn't string strikes - a couple of stone eights helped with that. Missed a few easy spares too, damn it... But my team took three of four points in a position round, so no harm, no foul I suppose...

I would love to have the CATS analysis done on me. Then I can see just how phucked up I really bowl!! Lol! If I had to guess, I would say my rev rate is about 350+. Not high, but enough for now. I struggle in high oil, so I would really like to get the rev rate up a little higher.

Went with my mom to have her ball drilled and did a little bowling myself while she was testing her ball. Was trying to work on getting closer to the foul line during my release. My God was that difficult! That is going to take a lot of practice to get that right. Its definitely a game changer! With the bigger steps, it seemed to speed my ball up, which isnt what I need. Then Im sure Im not releasing the ball correctly because everything just feels goofy. We start back up this Tuesday. Not sure if Im just going to leave my game alone for now, or go ahead and work on it. Its not like its a high cash league....

So you tried taking bigger steps instead of moving up? That would definitely be a tough transition to make. I could see it affecting your swing timing. A larger step takes longer than a shorter one, so you could end up with early timing unless you pick-up your pace. You may have subconsciously done that to some extent as your ball speed was up. But it sounds like your swing timing was still off based on your release issue. Note: I'm an engineer, not a bowling coach; so my observations here are may or may not hold water...
