Not sure on the cut off date for the chains. Probably along the same time the 11s got the pre drilled holes for the strut brace. But to get new chains its 400-500 dollars for a new set plus what ever its gonna cost in labor. Not sure if i would tackle that myself since it is a time consuming install that you need a few special tools for

The timing chains are under the valve covers so you cant see them without taking apart part of the motor. And I'm not worried about it because at this point there is very little you can do to prevent it. Over time these chains will stretch because of poor design. There have been some people on Caddys, and other motors that are basically the LLT that have replaced the chains up to 3 times. Just ask scrming and adding more performance just makes them go quicker from people's experience

The timing chain basically syncs the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft(s) ((in our case)) so the engine's valves open and close at the proper time during each exhaust and cylinder intake stroke.

They just cost alot and is just another example of gms great designs.

I just googled Timing Chains to see if I could find a picture of them on the Camaro to show and your post is almost identical to Wikipedia

usually the motor just goes in limp mode and a CEL trips to let you know but if you drive to long with stretched chains yes a blown engine will be the result

When I added my headers last year my uncle who has had a bunch of camaros explained to me in detail what timing chains were, why they stretched, and so forth. I don't get my info from Wikipedia like you
