According to Jalopnik the Challenger has not been canceled, but several other cars have been:
http://jalopnik.com/5390953/report-t...nd-alfa-lineup

So Dodge will be all performance/muscle cars. And a Charger redesign sounds promising.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the introduction of new Alfas. My dad had an old alfa, and the 8C is a beautiful car.

But with the introduction of new colors for the challenger:
http://jalopnik.com/5383159/first-re...ing-plum-crazy (This is on the Dodge official site too, along with a few more new colors)

and a possible engine upgrade for the 2011 Challenger:
http://jalopnik.com/5379691/2011-dod...ng-64+liter-v8

I'd say the Challenger still has plenty of life in it.

It's selling well also. But this doesn't change the fact that it's a big fat sloppy boat of a car, and has a terrible interior. At least it's pretty on the outside~

I never seen them classed that way. I've only seen them listed as sport coupes.

funny how the challenger is so fat yet it runs 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. hmmmmmm
and last i checked muscle cars never were track cars from factory. just str8t line beasts. so stop making excuses and give credit were credit is due. challenger is a great looking muscle car with speed to match. all 3 of the muscle cars has their flaws but it is great to have all 3 here at the same time.

The Camaro is on page 9, as is the Challenger.

And after looking briefly, and doing a quick search the Challenger is not the worlds heaviest compact. There's a couple Bentleys that are just shy of the 6000 lb mark. The Rolls Royce Phantom isn't far behind.

I can believe that's how the government rate them. Why do you think that is?

Everyone always says that muscle cars were never track cars. This is completely untrue. I don't know why people think this. For quick info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Am_Series

"The Golden Era (1968-1972)
These years were largely dominated by Mark Donohue, driving for Roger Penske. Penske campaigned Camaros through 1969, when he signed with American Motors to race the Javelin in 1970 and 1971. Donohue would chalk up 20 race victories between 1967 and 1970 and three unofficial drivers's championships, the third achieved in 1971. The 1970 Trans Am series is regarded by most racing historians as the high water mark of American road racing. Every "pony car" manufacturer was represented with a factory team and top driving talent: Chevrolet had the Chaparral Chevy Camaro Z28 team with Jim Hall, Ed Leslie, and Vic Elford. Ford's Bud Moore Boss 302 Mustangs were driven by Parnelli Jones and George Follmer. For Plymouth, the All American Racing Cudas were handled by Dan Gurney and Swede Savage. Sam Posey, and occasionally Tony Adamowicz, drove Ray Caldwell's Autodynamics Challenger TA, Jerry Titus had the Pontiac TransAm, and Roger Penske's Sunoco AMC Javelin team starred Mark Donohue and Peter Revson. The Mercury Cougars were driven by Charlie Rainville, Bruce Jennings, and three other drivers in two races of the 1968 season.

Most of these cars have been preserved or restored and are still racing in vintage events today. The Historic Trans Am Group[1] events often reunite drivers from the era to with the cars they raced in "back in the day".

Many of the greats of muscle car history like the Boss 302 and the Z28 were special packages born of road racing with a 5.0 liter (302 cubic inch) engine displacement maximum. Everyone focuses on the big blocks today- but these were the models that I drool over.

*edit, don't mean for that to sound hostile. sorry if it did.

interior volume and general configuration (wagon or not). My car is a compact but if I had gotten the sedan it would have been a midsize.

I guess I grew up with a fanatic for a Dad, but they sure as heck were buying these cars because they handled relative to that day and age. "Road-hugging" was the catchphrase of the day. That meant they handled. Straight line only is one of those things we look at in retro-spect, not at the time.

Edit: and the 1st one is a classic. And 'optional rallye stripes (from the Camaro)- was basically saying "road racing stripes".

In stock trim, my Challenger didn't handle the best, but it sure is fast. For $600 I put a full Eibach suspension on it and now it handles like it's on rails and looks better to boot. So now I have the speed and the handling with awesome looks to go with it.

Several buddies of mine have gotten their Challenger 0-60s down in the the 4.5 second range consistently. That's quick for a car this size and the comfort it offers. I can easily put 4 people in it if I want and everyone has plenty of room. Sometimes my gal and I take my parents out to dinner in it and they don't mind sitting in the back at all.

Simple fix for me. Now i just need MO POWAH! It's never enough.

ya I understand. Sorry about my bad habit of taking topics off into left field. I just keep getting told by a 67 year old how well his old muscle cars handled.

But I'd be sad if Dodge ever bites the dust. I think the Camaro is a more compelling choice for me, but I love the Challenger and hope it stays in the market. I even like the Charger just because American V8 rwd sedans are so rare.
