I work in a hospital with doctors, nurses and medical assistants. Just because someone can be in one of those professions doesnt mean they have common sense. There are several people I work with that are "medical professionals" that are dumb as rocks.

Luckily the job I have keeps me away from patients. I can stay in my office in a corner of the building and just order supplies.

As mentioned above.... wash your hands... there is a difference between washing them and washing them properly!

Not confirmed yet. Guy in Lubbuck, TX is in isolation, and CDC is going to be testing. Just came back from West Africa and shows 2 symptoms of Ebola.

We're safe though!

I won't post pictures of what Ebola looks like in advanced stages, but it's pretty horrific to look at.

Man that is bad!

I was referring more to amount of effected people and how easy it is to spread. However, I did some research and got my answer.

I am a 16 years in the field scientist in Molecular Biology and have used various virus vectors for all kinds of work. And I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night....

Ebola is pretty nasty. The "body fluids" stuff you hear is true and bad thing is Ebola has a very high viral titer in all fluids, not just blood. HIV on the other hand has a relatively low viral titer by comparison.

My worry is that most models are based on sub Sahara African village infections where no one really leaves in their life and air travel is such a luxury it's almost not a factor. Now many folks go back to visit relatives and come right back (the Dallas case) and all the workers that are walking in to a bad situation maybe not appreciative of how fast this can get out of control.

All that said, the burn rate of Ebola is extremely high so it can never be like "Spanish Flu" or others. Unless it mutates to air born. If it does:
-They in no way are going to tell you that
-Not much any of us can do

Overall, be aware, but I don't think heavy concern is warranted here except about the inept CDC and government we have. None of that is new.

Fifteen minutes before getting off work they gave me a list of stuff to order asap. A bunch of personal protective equipment (PPE's) in case we get an Ebola patient. We already had similar equipment, I guess this is better stuff. There is also a Q&A tomorrow for everyone as well as some training for medical staff.

We can't infringe on people rights, not the right to fly or travel I guess.

And don't watch CNN. Or Fox.

The U.S. and other countries can certainly restrict or ban travel if and when quarantine is needed. We already restrict people from entering our country without passports and for other reasons. There are no rights involved with travel (especially from foreign countries) that I know of.

There is no risk flying to Africa. The risk is flying back if you visit the effected countries in Africa.

I'm fine with people flying there, just dont expect to be welcomed back unless you can be quarantined for three weeks.

I am new to this thing but are the numbers I have seen all 2014,

if that map is correct and all are 2013-14 cases I would think stopping flights from or anyone traveling with a recent passport stamp from the countries with hundreds of deaths and from what I understand are still rising rates of deaths and illness numbers would be just a good precautionary measure. US citizens put through a 45 day Quarantine there before putting whole groups on planes returning home then maybe another 45 days here with the flight crew before clearing them as clean bill of health. Over doing it a bit or a lot maybe but an once of prevetion is worth a pound of cure.
