I believe at least part of the argument for "cloud-based" benefits is that some processes can be handled on the cloud side instead of your console. Is this not the same argument EA made for their recent "always-connected" SimCity release? I guess I just like knowing that when I have the game disk in my hand and my console at home, I have everything I need for an awesome experience. No depending on the internet, no depending on if the cloud service is busy or potentially shut down for maintenance, no worrying about if I want to play my game 5 years from now and the company decided to close the servers. Just me, my game, and my warm console. Is that too much to ask?

Wow, that went on for far too long, lol.
I understand where you're coming from, what EA did to SimCity was terrible. I don't think Microsoft will do the same. I probably wouldn't worry about it too much.

Looking at articles across the web, twitter and facebook, this reveal has been an unmitigated disaster.

There is just as much good publicity as their is negative. It happens with everything. I find it funny the things people are complaining about. Oh no I can't play my old games. Oh my god I can't be cheap and buy used games. Oh no I have to use kinect. Look at all the technology and innovation in this new generation of gaming and entertainment. All this awesome new stuff and people pick out things that don't even matter. Why would you want to play an old game on a brand new system anyways? All the new games are going to be so much better. I could go on and on but its not worth it.

The 720 was just what people thought they were calling the next gen Xbox.

It's not about being cheap for used games.
It's more about, in a decade when you can buy the system, whether for nostalgia, to replace or just to actually try something new, if microsoft discontinues the support of servers, guess what, you're screwed and won't be able to play the used games you HAVE to buy used because they aren't sold new anymore.
especially when you have to "register them" before the necessary install.

I agree with most of this, except for the Kinect part. Kinect is a piece of shit and nobody wants it, yet they still cram it down our throats. People have a right to complain about that.

I'm thinking its not going to be as invasive as everyone thinks. We still have a controller which they made even better so that tells me the kinect will be secondary. I think games like Call of Duty etc will still rely solely on the controller but will be enhanced by use of the kinect, such as its ability to detect the movement of your eyes and provide on screen visual movements of your character. Again, just speculation until more details are released to us. I have never been into kinect either but from what I've seen and know I'm willing to give it a shot as long as I don't have to play my games solely with the kinect by using body movements looking like a dumbass.

Believe I saw a question asking about HDD.
it's non-removable according to engadget and we'll have to rely on external storage if you were to fill up the 500gb drive(or it fails).

Which is fine because the onboard memory will be used for games saves etc, like the 360. DVR tv shows, music, movies, will be in the cloud. I'm sure each will be able to be changeable from cloud to onboard memory and onboard memory to cloud. 500 gigs should be more than enough.

That's the bad thing about these vague press releases.... People are left to assume and that's never good. I wish companies would just wait until they were fully ready then release the details.

Didn't Microsoft just want to upstage Sony or something?

Most of my friends are pretty excited for One. It'll be a pain having to buy a new console though.

Damn, do I get a tune for the car or use the money for a new system? Could do both, but with a kid due in Sept I prefer not to.
