Oh I know, I just think it's interesting to watch high school kids' decision making process on national signing day.

It could probably be an experiment in sociology

Actually.

Of 114 players on the listed roster (not sure how current but all I was looking for is an average) it broke down like this;

Texas 59 - 52%
Oklahoma 32 - 28%
Kansas 7
California 4
Missouri 3
Florida 2
New Mexico 2
New Jersey 1
Georgia 1
Ohio 1
South Dakota 1
Louisiana 1

So 52% from Texas.
And 28% Oklahoma
And 21% everywhere else.
Hey, you know........everything's bigger in Texas........

Seriously, though........look how big Texas is........they should have more recruits.........

I honestly think Texas with the LHN will usually appeal to a Texas recruit first but some may still be lured by the chance to play in the SEC.

Using your example, they can just as easily say "Texas didn't take you? You can come to A&M and represent the State of Texas in the SEC."

A&M recruits almost exclusively in Texas but also pretty well in Louisiana. They have lost a few recruits (so has Texas and OU) to the SEC because those kids wanted to play in the SEC. A&M moving over may swing some of those home state kids back to A&M.

We can all sit here and living room recruit all day long but none of us really know how these kids think or what they will do until the recruiting classes come out. We'll just have to see what happens with recruits in the next few years, but I see the upside to the move.

I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing.

I got a question and this isnt just for you to answer this is for all big12 folks or anyone that wants to.

How is the LHN going to presuade kids/athletes to come to Texas ?

#1 have you seen the network yet ? Its a Football highlight reel over the games of this season and from the past. Also they have programs talking about up coming Games.

#2 Volleyball , Basketball and rowing and indoor and outdoor track events are shown most of the time.

#3 in the state of Texas it is a UIL Rule/violation if any student or school is shown on Tv for any reason during a game or PERIOD.

I wished some would have bought into the lonestar network but it didnt happen that way. I dont have the LHN. A friend of mine does and yes its cool but im not going to lose sleep to get it as imo its nothing more right now than a talk radio show on Tv to coaches and players about games.
I can see that online.

I dont see why a recruit would pick UT over any school because of this network lol

The Tv and word of mouth has given this network so much hate everyone wants to scream its a murder but honestly I laugh thinking a kid would pick Texas over okie St because the LHN thats showing womens swimming for most of the day gives me jollies to come to Texas.

Hmmm maybe they are showing nude college coeds and it gives kids an idea on what they are going to see walk around Austin

I know what everyone has heard and what ESPN has mentioned but really people if a kid picked UT over another for this stupid network then they are going to be spending to much time in the dorm watching a Televised message board

Recruiter says Son come play at ???????? here you will get the best education and a chance to play for one of the finest universities in the world.

Recruit says hmmmmmmmmmmm k

Recruiter says to parent Your Son/daughter will come into ?????? and leave with ? and ? and ? and we have a Family like atmosphere around here where everyone is close just as you are to your fmaily blah blayh blah blah blah

Then they invite you to the sporting event you are attending and you meet other recruits as well when you are there.
Nothing is given to you but lets just say you are not getting $hit on by piegons either lol

Students and family get the Royal treatment of the athletic facilities and parents get drilled on why the education is so outstanding and how close everyone is. Current atheltes come speak to you and say if you $hit there it wont stink lol

Seen it for my own eyes ( not football )

Come here we will make you ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?

Then there are the recruits like Vince Young , Adrian peterson , and ETC ROFLMAO

For UT when a recruit for all sports comes to the campus they get taken to the athletic center just outside of DKR ( football stadium ) You see Historic people , you see everything that OHHHHHHHHHHHH , WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW OMG and then you see the campus and you walk through the locker rooms and then you go out with your parents on 6th street at night and you notice everything is CHEAP lol

This is a fair question....here's my un-LHN-educated take on it.

I see the LHN possibly swaying recruits in 2 basic ways...the first is marketing. With the added exposure of the Longhorn brand now into your living room, there is greater exposure to the brand.

The second, I think will be influence from the parents who willl actually pay for the LHN. "Hey son, UT is a great school, in a great conference. Most of your games we can drive to but those that we can't get to, we can watch you on the LHN." Sooner, Aggie, Cowboy, Red Raider, etc parents won't be able to say that. Both of these things will apply to all sports.

Have I seen it? No, I live in Baylor country and I don't even know if it's available here in the Fort Hood/Killeen area. I would see it just to see the production value and how well the content is presented.

Although Football is the #1 sport for revenue in Texas, the LHN isn't a purely football network and it should highlight ALL University sports.

As far as the UIL rules....again, I'm right with you on this. I think the State of Texas has done an excellent job in trying to protect these HS kids with rules like this. However, it has been widely reported that written into the UT/ESPN contract was language stating that UT would TRY to provide Texas HS football games for ESPN. After this was shutdown by the UIL, NCAA, and the BIG XII, the LHN still attempted to show HS football highlights of teams/kids that they were targeting for recruitment. Sort of smudging that period a little.

Will the LHN be the SOLE reason a kid picks UT over another school? No, I don't see it like that. But I do see it as one more thing that can be added to a pros and cons list for a kid and their family picking a school.

I can't remember what is was, but it was definitely a commercial and definitely said 'The Longhorn Network' but what it said about the network I don't know. I just caught the tail end. Could have been a random, stock audio commercial for ESPN. I don't know.

Kids today are rexruited totally different than years past. Use to be that they went to a school because of a Coach....See Bear Bryant, Pat Dye, Barry Switzer etc......just because they wanted to be associated with those people.

While kids today still have loyalties to a school it is not as important. Most highly recruited kids want to go to a school that can get you to the next level, The NFL, and look at programs and coaches that can do that. They want playing time, to be on ESPN Sportsenter, nationally televised games and WIN.

The big problem is that most of these high rated kids are a bust......Look at the past 5 years Top recruits.....most don't even know who they are now.

We will take my school, Alabama, for example......many of these high recruits can not cut it in college and they transfer because they aren't the stars of the team. Javier Arenas was not even recruited and was only offered at Alabama, barely a 3 star recruit. He excelled because it was in him and he tried, listened to coaching and was in a good place.

Most of these kids who are recruited are told from a very young age that they are the best things walking.....see Terrell Pryor, only to fall on their face because they have no work ethic. Some develope into good players.

The majority come from backgrounds that are hardly above poverty level and see this is a way out.......Talent can only carry you so far...hard work will carry you alot further.

I think that was the main complaint about the LHN, Exposure. Exposure gives these kids an added advantage, not in college but after.

Take Garrett Gilbert for example........the way he played the second half of the BCS N/C game against Alabama let everyone with a feeling that he is gonna be a good one because he was baptized by fire. Only the next year he falls on his face and now is warming the bench...is it politics???? But McCoy and Ash are performing and in college football that is all that matters.

Gilbert had shoulder surgery...but his UT career is over! I think the point about Gilbert that gets overlooked, he was a Freshman that stepped into a BCS NC game and kept it close...not many out there that could of done better!

Now let's see, Colt McCoy is the starting QB for the Browns....where is McElroy, warming the bench for the Jets. I am sorry but McElroy is an overrated QB, he was never going to be a starter at Texas Tech because he could not pass the ball....in the NFL QB's have to be able to pass the ball!!
