Yes, sports officiating in any sport is extremely tough, and not too many of us can do it. You've got to have patience, understanding, passion, and coolness under fire, when dealing with fans, players, and coaches.
Remember....when they yell at you, they are yelling at the uniform and not you. But, every once an awhile, I pull out the "T" from my pocket and hand it out.

Thanks man - gotta start running around and getting into shape for the season here soon. End of February my life will basically end outside of teaching and reffing. Crazy how you go all year round - I don't think I'd be able to do it. I go hard during the 3-4 month season, maybe do one or two tourneys in the summer, and that's it.

The second half of the high school season starts tomorrow night for me. I'll be reffing 3 girls basketball games at Lytle High School (Lytle vs. Pearsall) Freshman, JV, and Varsity...

I'll be part of a 3-man officiating crew tonight for girls' JV and Varsity games between Center Point and Junction High Schools.

Reffing two games tonight between Natalia High and SA Cole High (Boys JV and Varsity).
The Cole Varsity coach is Herb More. In case you didn't know, Coach More was an Assistant Coach back in the day when a 7-Foot lanky kid named Shaquille O'Neal played there and led them to victory at the 1989 Texas State Finals (Division 1A).

Reffing two games this Friday between Johnson City High and Comfort High (Boys JV and Varsity).
I just watched some instructional videos from the UIL. These were videos of the Texas State Playoffs from past seasons. Some of the vids were about what NOT to do and IMPROPER positioning during games (3-man Mechanics). I was left to wonder how some of these officials felt getting posted on the UIL website for these videos. Of course, they also had some CORRECT and PROPER positioning videos as well.

Reffing a girls varsity playoff game tonight between Karnes City High and Granado High.

I have one boys varsity basketball playoff game on Monday, Feb. 11th, between SA Sunnybrook and School of Excellence.

Had two boys district games between Dilley High and Marion High last night. The varsity game went to OT and the visitors, Marion, squeezed by with a 1-point victory! Pretty intense game..

My UIL High School Season is over. Next up is the S.A. Filipino Basketball League, which kicks off on Saturday, March 23rd!!

I'll be reffing 4 games this Saturday for the FBL. I try to keep my skills honed during the off-season doing adult and youth leagues...

Whew!! I was a little rusty yesterday, but all in all the games went well. It had been a month and a half, since I last stepped onto the court to officiate a game. It's very important that I keep my skills tuned, especially during the off-season.
