Captain James T. Kirk, in "Star Trek - Generations." So far that is four: Dr. McCoy (Bones), Scotty, Spock, and Captain Kirk. Of course Captain Kirk is also the only TOS crewmember that they also killed off. Non crewmember who also appeared in TNG was Sarak.

Furthermore, some actors playing one rôle in one series come back in different guises in later series. How about Tim Russ playing a terrorist who's out to get Captain Picard in Next Gen. returning as a responsible Vulcan 1st officer in Voyager? Or Ethan something who appeared a couple of times as horrid Ferrenghi characters in Next Gen. coming back as the affable Neelix in Voyager, then again returning in as a newly unlikeable Ferrenghi in Enterprise? |

Gotta love '60's overacting-is-acting! Star Trek was probably middle of the road on that; it was evident in some episodes (like "The Enemy Within") but not as bad in others. Thing is, I'm expecting it when I'm watching a TOS episode...I forget that it was often the style then when watching something else and end up wondering why Lorne Greene is playing this episode of Bonanza like it was Macbeth in the Park.

The 1960's television scripts for Star Trek were dumbed down because the corporate sponsors had low opinions of viewer literacy and intelligence.
This estimation was revised upward in succeeding decades with Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. It culminated with a tongue-in-cheek humor that was delightfully employed in Enterprise. The corporate sponsors finally pulled their support when they saw that the intellectual capacities of current audiences had indeed fallen lower than they were incorrectly judged to be back in the 1960's. Hella shame, ain't it? |

Just talkin' 'bout this good ol' Star Trek stuff, makes me wanna' play some of my favorite "Enterprise" prequel discs.
You gotta' admit that the last series should have gone on for a couple more seasons, at least, eh? The story itself was good and strong, the casting was great, and the humor of it was funny. Funny worked on "Enterprise" better than it ever did on the earlier iterations. Remember the episode where a Vulcan is stranded on Earth in the late 1950's who is addressed by an Earth teenager as "Moe" because "his hair bears a certain resemblance to a comedic actor of that name". Hah! The Stooges in a Star Trek script. That was great! |
