sugar your avatar is making me think of the humane society here in phoenix. this week they're giving away cats -with no charge. they have so many and will have to put them down soon. Oh i want to go get one or two, but i don't know how my dog will play with kitties. Not that he'd hurt them, but maybe play a little too much for them. :(

I had a dog when I was younger, and told my mom I wanted a cat.
They got a kitten from a friend's litter. I was surprised.
My dog growled a bit, but was nothing. He never hurt him.The
vet said if they won't get along they will just respect each other.
They eventually became best friends and slept on my bed every night
together. My dog became ill at 13 yrs, and passed away.
My cat meowed sadly for 2 weeks after that. I never heard my cat
meow before that! Just adopt one or 2. They will be FAMILY.

That is the saddest/cutest story.
My dog likes other animals. He goes up to other dogs and is happy. Once, when he was about a year old though, there was a stray puppy in the neighborhood, so i took him in till i could find the owner. I brought him in the backyard and my dog was real upset. That was his territory. He didn't get mad at the puppy, but he kind of ran around behind me upset. It seemed strange to him that another animal was in His backyard. He's also taken to catching birds. He's caught three. He doesn't try to kill them, just carry them around. The other day i caught him doing that with a little bird and put a stop to it. Just afraid he'd pick up a cat and carry it around in his mouth, thinking he's playing. I really wanted to get a kitten at the same time i got him so they could grow up together. wish i had.

It sounds like your dog will get along with a cat or 2? Don't
worry cats can hold their own, he won't let the dog pick him up. The cat
will hiss at him, and the dog will learn not to piss him off!
It would be great company for each other. You should give it a try!
After all, you'd be doing a compassionate service towards putty cats,
that need a loving home.
