You can. You need to learn to sit back to take all of the pressure off your knee. This is one of the most common BS things I hear in a gym. "I can't squat I have bad knees". If you are squatting correctly your knees don't come into play. You should be using your ass and your hamstrings. Learn how, on the ascent, to push with your traps first. If you push with your feet first your legs will shoot forward placing the knee past the toe and putting strain on your knee. Also widen your stance.
I use to always do squats. Loved them! Although my stubborn ass hasn't tried using just the bar and squatting. Could be a weight issue.
And yea my stance is probably way off. I can't seem to stop favoring that leg.

A wider stance is much easier on the knees and ankles. Box squats may be useful , they sometimes make it easier to perform the movement, you push through your heels rather than lift the weight, if that makes sense.

Good....just remember to sit back. When you are seated on the box your knees should be past perpendicular to your toes.

Personally it's the only way I squat except during a PL meet. It's harder, teaches you to explode out of the bottom, and ensures, when done correctly, alleviates any and all strain there could be in your knee area.

That is not really needed, parallel or slightly below will still recruit all the muscles used when going low but will be more forgiving on the knees.

This.....

No matter what you hear or what you have read there is zero benefit to this and only can trash your knees. When you squat this way your knees can't help but to shoot forward...

10-4. I should be south tomorrow night at work so ill run by Walmart and get a blender lol and some good stuff to throw in it and work some legs. Try squads again.

We use to be able to go to the rec center to lift while they cleaned the place at night... But apparently someone pissed someone off and we were kicked out :( so I use what we have at the office. Our rack sucks but it works.
