I went to the Ford dealer because I wanted a closer look at the new Mustang. No hidden agenda. Was really hoping to pick up a low numbered Saleen before I bought the Camaro, so I'm not a diehard GM fan just bashing the Mustang.
I just wrote what I noticed. When I was shopping for the SS, most internet findings compared it with the 500. I thought it was a little unbalanced, because the cost difference.

All I can say about the final result is the carswerethisclose. They are both FAST. They both stop right NOW. They both pull ridiculous Gs on the track on street tires. They are both STABLE and PREDICTABLE. As much as they are the same they are DIFFERENT.
We had a great time with the development of the cars. We had a great time at the track. My guess is our track day will only fan the flames in the Camaro vs Mustang wars. The wars should continue becuase it breeds better cars for us as consumers of AMERICAN MUSCLE. |

If you have been here long enough, you would have known that it is almost always the Camaro guys starting threads comparing/bashing the Mustang and GT500, just like this one you started. Give it up already.

The Mustang must have either been loaded, marked up, or both; it's usually in line with the Camaro in terms of pricing. Of course, you can save some good money by knocking out the nav and the stupid plastic body kits.

Did the Mustang have the glass roof option? Thats a pretty pricey option that could take it over or near 40K

He also mentioned the stereo was very nice as well. I believe thats an extra $1000 if it's the upgraded stereo.

Yep, obviously peeps get confused on pricing because some models come fairly loaded as base models (SRT8, CTS-V) vs. models that offer stripper models with cloth, and some models offer more or less options than others (i.e. NAV, Glass Roof, etc). Better to compare comparably equipped models if you wish to compare models on a value basis.

No offense OP but this isn't a very informative write up, hardly qualifies as a comparison. All of the 2011 GT's at one of the largest Ford dealers here are under 37K. There is one optioned out convertible listed for 41K. I sat inside of a Lamborghini Diablo several years ago and I don't think I could've put together a very good write up on that car based on my very limited experience....

Yep, for instance, I just built a Mustang that came to $ 42,270 With these options: Premium Brembo Brakes Red Candy Metallic with tinted clear coat (Like RJT) Security Package (wheel locking kit and active anti-theft)* $395 Glass Roof* $1,995 3.73 Gears* $395 HID Headlights Comfort Package (Heated Seats and Powered passenger seat) Electronics Package* (Navigation, HD Radio and Hard Drive, Dual Zone electronic temp control) $2340 Rear View Camera* $240 So in order to get to 42,000, you have to add alot of things not available on the Camaro (Glass roof, Navigation/HD Radio/HDD, Rear View Camera, 3.73 Gears, Security Package, etc) So its not really fair to bitch about the price when it offers alot more. |

I have noticed the dealer installed options for the GT are less expensive than for the SS. GM wants $1000 for almost everything. Subwoofer = $1000, Borla style mufflers = $1000, etc. Kinda sucks. No glass roof on this one. I'd like to check one out, but would not consider that option. I live in Florida and sunshine is not out friend down there. I've got a convertible that sits inside until the sun goes down. The price I looked at was on the factory sticker, so I'm guessing this didn't include dealer applied options. Are the stick on panels dealer appled? I didn't notice if it had the track-pac. If I were to buy one, I would definately consider that package. |
