You are right, I figured you were talking about last season. 31st in yards, 15th in points. Even then, they only gave up over 30 points ONE time that season. Unlike the 33 points the Dolphins D gave up the final 6 games, on average.

But let me ask you this, how many times does that happen? Can you name ONE other time when a 31st ranked D has ever made it to the SB? So to use that one exception to the rule as a basis of defense doesn't matter so much, you should look a little harder at how football works.

I've thought for the last few years that Miami would step it up in the AFC East mainly because I didn't think Brady really had any weapons except Gronkowski. Also, they had a pretty good defense last year.

I'm not so sure about this year though. They lost all their CB's, and I just don't know how stout their defense is going to be this year. They are still the top dogs in the AFC East with the Super Bowl win, however I could see Miami or the Bills taking that spot this year unless Bellichick can put together a good no-name defense. We'll see.

again, with the putting words in my mouth ...when did I say defense didn't matter much? I know how football works , maybe you should look a little harder into comprehending what you are reading.

Plenty of names on that defense, they will be just fine there...corners will be weaker, but front seven stronger for sure, safeties above average too.

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s James Walker, Seahawks general manager John Schneider put Tannehill’s representation on notice that he didn’t much appreciate how things played out between the Dolphins and the quarterback.
Walker reports on Twitter that Tannehill’s agent, Pat Dye, indicated Schneider called him and said, “Congrats, you just cost me a lot of money.”

For me it is all about the defense or lack their of. Corner back position is a complete gamble, I think we are back in the spot we were few years ago where you felt better on 3rd and short then you did 3rd and long because maybe the other team would run and we had a chance to stop that. D-Line scares me a bit with Vince gone or his 300 HHMMM and 25 lbs gone (looks more like 375 lbs). I think the Line backers actually look like are a strong point but may suffer from trying to hard to help the people in front and behind them, and look bad in the process. I think the division is a toss up if Brady misses 4 games if its 2 games I fell better about the division. But I still don't see us making past division weekend in the playoffs unless there is a huge surprise from the defensive backs.

My Guess at standings are: (and I can see those going plus or minus 2 games for any those teams.)
Pats: 10-6
Miami: 9-7
Buffalo: 9-7
Jets: 5-11
They added Fred Davis (not sure he will ever be the same) and Chandler at TE too, big targets....Garoppolo should be good enough with the talent to win 2, maybe three of the four.....if he plays
As far as Vince, IMO...will be better without him, he was slow and believe it or not, got pushed around last year more than I had ever seen, I was actually hoping he would have come back in better shape after rehab, he was worse, leadership is all they will miss from him.
Malcom Brown will fill that hole well, along with Spikes being back there in obvious running downs, Easley will be in his second year and they kept Branch, personally..I feel the Dline will be the strongest it's been since the Wilfork, Warren ,Seymour days.
Corners, yes....obviously down in talent, but I for one won't miss Browners penalties, I think they will be adequate though with Butler, Ryan, Fletcher and some good safety play, also a position the Pats are loaded at.
I don't pick records....but I think your 10-6 is a little low, those couple games either way you said, is more likely.

Patriots front 7 this year (with plenty to rotate in/out) may be the best we have had since 2002-2006. I think they can play well. Problem is the back end is pretty weak (no proven CB's, Chung is a line pounder safety and I think McCourty is a bit over rated at his position) so if the back end is weak that will catch up through a game. Still, like 3 SS's says, Pats have made distance with a poor secondary many times so we will have to see.

I would get Scott Chandler for Fantasy Football, most underrated offseason signing IMO (biased I know, but I ate crow on the cheating so leave me be), huge redzone target and with Gronk on the other side defense will have to pick poison there.

I say 3-1 after 4 games (loss at Buffalo) or 2-2 (losses at Buffalo and Dallas).

When you actually look at the specifics of Tannehills contract, he really isn't getting that much unless he performs, and if he does that he'll be worth the full value of the contract.
