they did not...they said that F-bodies were done for...the camaro announcement didnt come till years later. When f-body died in 2002...at the time...there was no plan for the camaro or firebird. The firebird was in the same boat as the camaro until GM announced firebird wasn't planned.

You can call any car that is dismissed on hiatus...then datsun and studebaker are all on hiatus as well.

In 2006...the camaro was planned...now 2009ish we are getting it. but from 2002 to 2006...the camaro was dead.

No one would like to see the firechicken back more than me but with CAFE and other legislation coming soon another model that gets 23 highway or less Isn't going to happen. As it is don't count the Camaro having these many horses past the next 2 years. My friends until there's concrete evidence stop resurrecting the dead ,if you want a future for the bird buy a camaro. Even then there's nothing pointing to a comeback, especially with GM's financial situation. One way they could circumvent the law is offer a firebird package on the camaro and just take off all the chevy badging, it will still fall under the chevy banner but it would not affect number of vehicles badges at the lower end of the MPG spectrum.

To take that thought above further, here's a thought off the top of my head...since Pontiac will be scaling down to a niche brand with only a few models, what if there were no Z28? What if the "top Camaro" was a WS6? That way Pontiac gets a halo car. Chevy already has the Corvette.

Now I'm going to hide behind this bunker before the bowtie guys start throwing things.

Scott and GM have already said that the days of "sister" cars (where all you do is change the front fascia and lights, is over. the Camaro/firebird days are over. its just the camaro now. sucks, but before GM can even start to think about possibly bringing out a new firebird (or a Z28 for that matter), they need to get the Camaro out there and selling.
