The fact is the only fanboy here is you. and if we fail to give you an answer as to why the Camaro was "killed" as you say. You are failing to tell us how the Mustang will be better. (besides sales, which to entiusiasts are irelevant)You're stating that the Mustang will have ecoboost. But what will the Camaro have?
Because if you think you know something we don't about the 2011 Camaro, please tell us we are eager to learn.
well the fact is that the Mustang is where my heart is and I wont claim inocence that when we all starting arguing I got very defensive.

But look......this is how I truly feel. As i said before I am a big 3 American Pony fan first and mustang loyalist 2nd.....to paraphrase. But look, fact is in my opinion......neither car is better. They keep one-uping each other and I think thats great.....Fact is.......its really fun on a Friday night to pull up to a 99 or 2000 v6 camaro in my v6 mustang......give him a little rev.....and then beat him.

Now of course.......in 2 months.......if i pull up to a v6 camaro......i will get beat.

Now.......you brought up 2011 again. well look.......there is no likely change of the v6 in the camaro for 2011. if there is id be shocked. So in 2011......the v6 mustang will win. but im sure in a couple years camaros v6 will be better.

My point is guys.....we love to bitch at each other and race and all that good stuff........but really.......these 2 cars are equals simply because of the feelings we have for them and the simple fact that those 2 companies FEEL THE NEED TO KEEP ONE-UPING EACH OTHER.

If that need and pride wasnt there........both of them would have perished in 1974.

So again......let me apologize for being defensive. I love the camaro......just not as much as mustang

oh and.......we are all way way way cooler than those stupid ass civics who try to act like they are the shit and then i blow them away!

one thing ford has done, and I will give them credit for, is the fact that they have stuck by their creed of "a mustang in every garage"

v-6 mustangs have been cheap, plentiful sellers for years. part of the reason the camaro was put on hiatus was because it was getting hard to sell them in the quantities that they needed. in the late 80s and early 90s there was a boom in import autos being sold in the US at cheaper prices than the more powerful muscle cars. when the 4th gen camaro's came out in 93, they were already on the cutting block for discontinuation. throw in the camaro/firebird body sharing eating up total sales of the platform, it didnt make for a good future for the car. the enthusiasts wanted more power, but the majority of america wanted economy and price. difficult things to merge together.

with the advent of smaller, cheaper import cars and the ratio of enthusiasts coming down, it didnt make sense to the big wigs at GM to keep trying to pump the Camaro/Firebird into the future. while there were plenty naysayers who fought to keep the f-body in production, the final word was no.

it takes a lot to design, produce, market, and sell a car to someone who doesnt need/want all the bells and whistles that muscle cars have (ie torque and hp), and when the majority of consumers want cargo capacity, mpg, and passenger occupancy, a powerful muscle car with 2+2 seating and low mpg doesnt make much sense in an evolving world that cares more about getting little johnny to football practice and comfortably fitting 5 people in the car on long trips.

well thanks.......thats a very valid point.

however.......Ford sold plenty of Stangs in those years that you speak of. In my opinion it wasnt reason enough to stop camaro

well, where ford was marketing 1 car, GM was having to market 2. and trying to sell both of them.

so say the production minimum was 80,000 cars to warrant keeping it in production.

ford can sell 50,000 v-6's and 30,000 v-8s of the mustang

but GM has to sell 80,000 of the Camaro AND 80,000 of the Firebird. and if one's sales were lacking, they wouldnt just stop making that version when they both shared the same platform they would have to kill off both at the same time.

so basically you have GM buyers that pick either camaro or firebird vs ford buyers that pick mustang. ford only had to sell half the qty to stay in the game. thats part of the big reason that there is no future firebird. Scott has mentioned before that the days of "sister" cars that all you have to do is swap the front fascias and they are the same, are over. GM is coming back with just the Camaro this time around, so hopefully we'll never have to be without it again.

Lack of competition will do that. And every 40 year old woman in the country dreams of her V6 Mustang to relive her glory days.
