I really don't think Dodge is challenging the Z/28.

GM currently has a solid edge on Dodge and Ford in suspension technology.

It might even struggle against a V6 car in the twisties if it does come in at 4400lb with 275's on it.

how do you supercharge a 7L engine and make 652 crank HP? And if you figured out how to do it , why would you?

The LS7 block is not correct for blown applications.

Hotrodders will hit 650HP at the crank (~550rwhp) without the weight or expense of a supercharger/intercooler system.

The beauty behind a NA engine for track use is the near instant acceleration.

Why not?

I don't know if I understand what your saying?

Ford made 662 with a supercharged 5.8
Dodge just made 707 with a supercharged 6.2

So getting 652 out of a 7L should not be hard

I agree that the LS7 is not good for blown applications

Now you have to take that car, add the entire newly updated interior and the cost of R&Ding that and then making it, the Super Charger and all supporting components. The engine is basically built, you couldnt just take the 392 engine and slap a SC on and make 700 as reliably as the Hellcat will. Then bigger brakes, cooling, suspension, wheels/tires, any special exterior mods etc.

If you wanted to take a 392 and give it all the same performance of the Hellcat with the OEM reliability + quality you'd hit at least 70gs(50+20 in mods).

If they can really get it done for 60k MSRP then that is AMAZINGGG and a HUGE WIN for Dodge.

Tine will tell
You are thinking retail prices

Imagine if you had the buying power to purchase 5000 superchargers. you will not pay the same price as someone buying just 1.

Also the R&D of the body/interior etc - that is spread across all the units. Challengers sell between 35,000-45,000 units a year. That R&D is very little in that regard.

The Hellcat will be added to different vehicles down the line also reducing R&D cost per car.

And finally - if Chevy and Ford can offer a supercharged version of their Muscle cars for under 60k - why can't Dodge?

Seeing that 59.9k price has me excited - and never thought about a Challenger purchase ever.

I opted for a Ram over a Silverado because of what was offered and for the price it was offered.

Chrysler maybe just maybe be able to do it again.

Live axle with 4th gear aimed at the trap speeds. Suspension aimed at drag racing. 15" rear rim clearance.

THEN it would would be worth more than $60k. It would be truly Old School Hemi Drag style. Nostalgia with the ET's to back it's badging.

A heavy car with modern bling and creature comforts just isn't going to get nostalgia crowd.

Does it work? Well, look at the first Viper. Freaking thing didn't even have real windows. The C5 Z06, while it did have AC and a radio, no other options. Both of these sold at a premium price even though they were less sophisticated cars.

And of course, the Z/28, but at this point nobody knows if it will be a success in the showroom like it is on a track.
its called a Drag Pak and they have been making them since 2008

I'm just waiting to see the carnage. After watching ZL1s roll, take out trees and end up in pools...throwing in 127 HP, worse suspension, "breaks that look big", skinnier tires and more weight...could be interesting...
