They do, I've seen it on Mustang forums. That's why the looks of a car are considered an "opinion."

I say we stop comparing cars based off of just numbers. When the 2011's come out I'm almost 100% sure that we'll get a "very biased" Motor Trend comparison where the mustang makes the camaro look like a geo...

same idea here, the GT500's are getting quiet the premium posted to them. but then again, that's southern california for you.

it could have 1000hp and cost $200 the fact that it has a blue oval on the front is enough for me to choose the Camaro. I'm sure it will be faster it has a lighter body and the new engine will only be 50lbs heavier or so. I don't care. I wouldn't buy one. I hope it can compete with the Camaro. A little competition is good for all. In the end it's the total package that will sell them. Looks alone won't do it. It's about time Ford showed up to the party.

hmmmmmm . . . .

hasn't Ford more or less been keeping the party going for the past 5 years or so while the others were more or less absent?

I'd put my money on the SS Camaro, and believe it or not I'm not the biggest fan of the Camaro. If I could afford a GT500, I'd have one, well no I wouldn't, I'd have a CTS-V. Anyway, the 540hp GT500 is barely quicker than an SS. So if you take away 120hp and maybe 200lbs from a GT500, how much quicker would it be if any. Overall weight is one thing, but the Mustang has too much of it in the front, making it a nose heave pig, making traction a big issue. For that reason, I think the Camaro will have the dragstrip advantage. I've driven a measely 09 Bullitt Mustang, and it was very fun to drive, fishtailing on the 1-2 shift, spinning the tires easily and all, but it was slow.

(hard to find those in a thread like this)

2011 mustang GT manual comes in at 8.7lbs/hp
2010 camaro SS manual comes in at 9.0lbs/hp

the new stang comes with higher gearing then we get (if i remember correctly, 3.41's stock or 3.73's with the track pack) compared to our 3.21's.

the gearing of the tranny's is the only thing unknow and assuming they've done what i'm sure they have; they've engineered the car to beat our beloved SS's.

that is assuming equally matched drivers and perfect replication of conditions.

----

but this is why i'm almost certain that GM is going for the throat of the snake with the new Z; kill the top dog and there wont be a next move to be made by the blue oval.
Actually, transmissions gearing is know for the 2011 Mustang. For the GT with the manual it'll be.....

1st-3.66, 2nd-2.43, 3rd-1.69, 4th-1.32, 5th-1.00, 6th-0.65:1

and don't forget that the overall tire height of the mustang is going to be shorter, helping out the already superior gearing.

Whereas the Camaro is a solid 13.0-13.3 @ 108-110, the mustang in my guesstimate is going to be 12.8-13.2 @ 109-112
